Can anyone help me with getting a car from Ill to texas or know a good transport that won't rip my eyes out?

Try U-ship and you may get someone willing to do it fairly reasonable, but you've also got to take into account that whoever is going to do it,they are probably only getting around 8 miles to the gallon while moving it and gas is approx $4/gallon for diesel, and you have to account for the amount of time they will be traveling too.Plus they usually tack on a few bucks to cover insurance and wear and tare on their vehicle. All I can say is,if you find someone willing to do it cheap or resonable, get some references from them or do a google search on them because some of these guys have a reputation for damaging vehicles, not arriving anywhere near the time promised,or have a shody practice. Good luck!

I used Jim at Truly Vintage to go from ND to TX. He was very careful, detail-oriented, and it's a single-car enclosed trailer with soft ties. He loves classic cars and babies them like you would. It's not like those discount shippers, though... count on $1/unloaded mile unless there's a perfect connecting load and I think $1.25/loaded mile. I have heard so many horror stories about other options so I was willing to pay extra for a real professional.

Contact Jim at 260-804-6695. He has a constantly updated page of where he's going and how much space is available here:

That's ah weekend round trip but I'd go for the car trailer instead of a dolly and I'd rent one of their diesel haulers too. Dollys don't like tight turns and your towed car doesn't like the inner half of dolly fenders getting into their rocker panels on those tight turns either! Ah couple other thingz you have to be aware of when doing your own hauling! #1. With the tow vehicles diesel almost always getz better MPG then Gas and the rental charge is the same for either unit! #2. Think about where you're going to have to refuel every couple hundred miles with the 40 gallon tanks the rental units have. You're now almost 40' long with only one bend in the middle so you'll be fueling in truck stops on truck fuel islands and not dodging 4 wheelers for a gas pump! #3 And if you do need a nap most of the rentals have bench seatz. Not sure where and where you'll be moving to and from but no transport hauler can work for even a dollar per mile in todays world and stay in business and I know it's about 1200 Miles from Chicago to Austin so I guess you can do your own math from there? Happy Trails, Jer

Chicago to Austin? does the car run? I use a company that moves from L.A. to Chicago every couple weeks, then back. I'll try to find their card. It's been a year or so.

Thanks guys Great input and lots to consider. The car does run but does'nt stop. It is a parts car so I have to weigh the cost of the whole vs finding the parts. Which has become impossible as we all know.

Just another not. I was looking around this morning and found a demo derby sight that talked exclusively about using c body cars. They could care less how nice or how unique
a C body was they would cut and weld any of them. My guess THEY are sucking up any of tese cars they can find, that's where my parts are going.

After trying a number of options, I have ended up using Montway most of the time unless I buy a basket case for some reason. They are brokers who screen out the shady operators and give you probably the best prices for the money, and their transporters have been generally very good for me. The cars have to brake, steer and roll at a minimum and are shipped on 8 car haulers generally.

Some of the guys are willing to sell parts! You can always sign up on those sights and offer to buy parts if you see something interesting. I have bought many parts from some good guys. Word of warning though, don't go in there bashing what they do or you will get booted out. If someone is selling a car for derby, just ask if they would be interested in selling you the parts you need. It gets real ugly, real quick if you get pissed about them being derbied. I strip my derby cars and sell or give away nearly everything off of them. What isn't wanted gets saved in a Conex on my property for future use. Remember these guys are only interested in the rolling chassis so most will gladly make a buck on the side for needed trim or what not.

I do too, but they are limited on Polara parts......... seems they like your formies better

1976-1978 Ny'ers

And 74-75 imperials. Meanest bumper ever built.

I scored some really nice 65 polara parts on wecrash in the past. A guy can also get decent scores on aluminum intakes and stuff too. I'd say 75% of those guys run Chevy motors so the mopar stuff can be had at better prices than eBay. The only downside is a bit more risk in the transaction so always use paypal and never pay as a gift.

Regarding the transport, I used DEX transport, Fontana California. he hauled a 70' duster body, no engine from Los Angeles to Omaha for 1100.00, 1800 miles. That was through a broker. danny said he could charge less next time, if I call him direct. he showed up with a nice Ram 4500 Cummins sleeper and five car hauler. Two days, team driving from L.A. to Chicago was his most common run. He goes takes the southern route, so give him a call. 909-773-2533
His Email is: [email protected]

A few people have mentioned broker fees or deposits... that was one of the benefits of working directly with an owner/operator hauler, I think. I actually offered him a deposit and he said "why? I've got your car. If someone needs a deposit they're undercapitalized." So I didn't pay 1 cent until the car was off the trailer safe and sound.

True,I had to pay 100.00 to the broker. now I keep a number for the hauler I like, and go direct. Most of these guys are trying to make a living, once you find a good one, stick with him. He will work harder for you.
