Calling for a Pow wow from the Best and the Brightest - Overheating.

Frams are good for the 500 mile break-in to grab all the leftover shrapnel.
At the 500 mile oil change, in goes the WIX.

You were scaring me for those few minutes.... how many miles does your car see a year? Couldnt the WIX do the job for the break-in too?

I know more about o-rings than you know about head gaskets. Ouch! Too soon?

So, ignore the possibility that the thermostat is not opening and just start pulling the heads.

He can easily check that by feeling the upper hose......if the stat isn't opening the hose shouldn't get hot, maybe lukewarm but they don't normally conduct enough to make it hot to the touch w/o the flow.

And yes, I know i'm real late to the party on this one and it's prob fixed already......but i'm going to read the whole thread instead of skipping to page 15.

I broke two cardinal rules. I deserved getting bit on the ***.
1. Read ALL the specifications including the fine print. Just because you're in a rush, you cannot assume anything.
2. Compare the original part to the new part when you get it. Just because you're in a rush, you cannot assume anything.

You forgot rule #3: If it's not a long time trusted name in auto parts assume it's improperly made.

I have seen countless times when a 'new' brand comes out and claims their product is a perfect fit and it is anything but that. My water pump is my most recent example......has raised areas on the outside on the body that forced me to take part of the car back apart just to put shims on the fan bolts to keep them from rubbing on the pump body.

lol......I'm glad I read the entire thread, it was very entertaining. Also was an excellent reminder of the camaraderie we have here that one is hard pressed to find on other forums. We were reminded of a few things as well:

- Stan can be provoked to use foul language just like most of the rest of us
- Dave is never wrong :poke:
- All parts are not made equal
- A/C on a car does nothing more than result in extra work
- If you live in Florida having to work on your car in the wintertime does result in lost driving time
- Stant makes a damn good thermostat (maybe not all agree on that but I do believe we have a quorum)
- You can beat the flat rate if you change the same part enough times
- If we all got together and drank there might end up being more fights than we'd like to admit

Have a great night everybody.

That sums it up ............ For the record, I think I was wrong on FCBO twice ........... but I could be wrong

HaHa, this thread came up as a suggestion on another thread. I was almost certain it was the thermostat.

I have read it a couple times before... threads like that are why I became a member. The bonus was all the great members in Florida and PGH... the only 2 places I knew I might get to actually see some members.

So the first one of them I actually met in person? The guy from Jersey...
