Do 66 imperial cars have hinden body numbers like A, B and E bodies. Is there a way to ID a car without
a VIN?

I can say my 70 and 71 have the VIN digits on the trunk lip under the seal by the left hinge. Also on top of the cowl below the windshield., again on the left..

I dont know what is on a 66 Imperial or when the numbers started to appear

Does you car have a fender tag on the "A"-pillar, next to where the VIN tag was? I'll have to look at my car to be sure, but there is a partial under the hood.

I have a '67 and see no stamped vin or Von numbers stamped on the body in the usual places. I think B-bodies from '66/7 are supposed to have body numbers on the upper yolk of the radiator core support and behind the rear bumper.

In 66 it would have the Shipping Order Number on the trunk rail and the cowl near the driver side wiper pivot (core support was only on A, B & E). The Data plate may have been on the core support but the hidden number was on the cowl.

Without a broadcast sheet it is impossible to connect a Shipping order number to a VIN.

Without a VIN the CHP would need to do an inspection and more likely would issue a new number based purely on your documentation. This will not follow the VIN format for a 66 but whatever their format is. They will act like there are other hidden numbers but there isn't.

Your best bet is a broadcast sheet and hope they know how to connect the dots.

You do realize that the wiper pivot is located on a finished cowl panel in front of the windshield on these cars, right? On my '67 the data plate is on top of the drivers side inner fender, there are no numbers stamped on the cowl in proximity of the wiper pivot under the hood and I see no evidence of numbers on the trunk lip but I'm not moving the original weatherstripping to see. Something tells me I wouldn't find anything if I did. This is just what I'm finding or not finding on my car.

W are talking about the "hidden" numbers

It took 20 minutes with a wire brush to expose mine (a 69) it was full of corrosion, if I recall it is under the cowl weatherstrip. Likewise with the trunk, on my 69 it was up near the hinge on the driver side (under the weatherstrip).

The 69 Data plate is on the core support by the battery.

The numbers will not be stamped on the removable parts, they will be on the body and two of them.
