Ok so I'm parting out this 65 Newport. I removed the radiator overflow tank. There was a small block of wood underneath it. I'm not sure why as it does not seem to need it. Anyway now I'm curious if this is the correct tank & also what is it worth. I would like to sell it. I filled it with water & it didn't leak anywhere. The cap is a little buggered up. If anyone thinks they can use this PM me with an offer.

MY '69 Imp didn't have one when I got it and the FSM don't talk about one. There is just a hose hanging down from the radiator filler neck and I can't locate a mounting position for a tank... Was there a tank on my car and if, is this the right one?

I'm guessing aftermarket unless Mopar pentastar on it somewhere and then maybe direct connection type deal but still useful.

Is there a part number on it?

I've never seen a factory overflow tank on pre-1973 mopar, the newest one I've ever owned was '72. Lots of after market ones, this one is on my parts car:

That's what I remember. But that didn't happen often, usually ment you overfilled the radiator.

Overflow tanks were not factory equipment until 72 or 73.
An issue I had with Jazebelle, (69 300), while traveling to Carlisle towing the pop up camper was on a long grade, (6-7 % for 4-5 miles), the coolant was being blown out of the by-pass hose, (16# cap). She got hot a couple oftimes on the trip and I needed to add collant every morning.

I'm going to try installing a overflow tank to see if that will help keep temps down.

My 70 has a towing package and no factory overflow... The original owner installed one shortly after new for towing the boat

I concur, not original.

In 1969 if the CHP needed to have a recovery bottle on a car they retrofitted a Cadillac bottle becaust Chrysler didn't have them at the time but Cadillac did.

What equipment is included in the "towing package" Dave....?
I did install a factory aux trans cooler I pulled from a 70 Newport and I could feel the temp difference between the inlet line and return line. I'm wondering if the cooler itself is restricting air flow to the rad now.

I'll look when I get home at lunch but I think it was just a shroud, bigger radiator, shocks and springs.

I got one exactly like that from a 73 Chrysler Newport. It is a factory piece. I would love to find a NEW/NOS one.

This explains the 20oz Coca Cola bottle zip tied next to my radiator and why I couldn't find the actual part at Carlisle for my '68 Fury III.

My 1972 Polara has one, hard piece to find NOS. I know some late 70's Dodge pickups had overflow tanks with a green cap, my guess is it's a retro fit from a later Mopar product.

In conjunction to what Alan said, non clutch 7 blade fan... Trunk dress up, trunk release and sure grip.

I would agree that it is most likely a later Mopar factory tank that a PO installed. I'm using an early '70's A-Body tank in mine. Fits nice. :) It also has that color cap on it.

My '69 F-100 and my '70 Mercury didn't come with coolant tanks either, just drip hoses. I do remember car commercials on TV sometime in the early '70's advertising new cars, bragging that their car had a "Coolant Recovery System". I don't remember which car manufacturer was pushing them as a selling point in the commercials, though.

Ok I went out & took another look. There are no numbers on the tank that I can see. There is a Chrysler Pentastar on the underside of the cap along with a #. The tank has a scale for 1 quart & 2 quart. The metal bracket that holds the tank to the car is rivited to the tank & looks to be a quality part. It also looks as if this was added to the 65 Newport. Pretty sure its not ment for this car. However it did fit well. Pm me please with interest. Part is for sale. See attached pic.
