got a 67 new yorker with 440 , in your opinion what muffler sounds best , i am looking at a flowmaster 40 or super 44

You'd hate mine. 23"'s off the header collector with Summits flowmaster knock off and that's it, 3" the whole way. It's really to keep the neighbors from complaining about open headers. I plan to add some resonators and dump out the side in back of the rear wheels. But right now, it's just slightly obnoxious.

I have dual Flowmaster 40's on my 400. Sounds great and no neighbor complaints.

A lot depends on what noise level your looking for. I like just a hint of the exhaust pulse from my 440.... Stainless Borla's offer a unique sound that is not intrusive and does not sound like a chevy...... !!!

I have dual flowmaster 44s under my Newport and I love em to death. They have a nice "growl"...esp at higher speeds. At idle they rumble a bit.....oh, 383 here.

Never liked the sound of flowmasters...I have 2.5" Dynomax super turbo's on the wagon and I Love them. Nice mellow rumble when cruising, but make a lot of noise when you really open it up.

I like the sound of the Flowtech Terminator mufflers. I like a performance sounding exhaust and these do it without being loud when idling or just cruising. However, you definitely can hear them when you mash the throttle! Also, they don't resonate nearly as bad as the Flowmasters do. I currently have them installed on my '65 Sport Fury w/383. 2.5" all the way.
