As many here probably already know both Anco and Trico have discontinued the refills.

Question 1.
Is there a known source for these?

  • I found a seller that had them and I purchased two sets, but they no longer list them. I also need 13" for the Truck and 15" for the Barracuda. These are of a design that could be cut down.
  • Year One list 16" but no 15" or 13", these are the original style and can not be cut down.

Question 2.
Is there a blade assembly that is currently sold that you can remove the blade from and use?

Question 3.
What was the refill number when there was one?

I have no interest in even trying the assemblies that are sold, I fully intend to use my frames.

Thanks,

Alan

I recently bought the ones you trim to size and slide into the factory metal frames. Bought them at O'Pepadvancezone.

This TRICO page would make me believe they still sell a variety of refills.

I went through the exercise months back when I needed blades for my car and a friend did as well.

I just went back to the Trico site to see if I could navigate to that page. Previously I just went to the "Find Your Wiper Size" which gets all the different assemblies but doesn't list the refills. Then to have to navigate to "Wiper Products" then "More Products" when they could have just put them in the list when you look for you size. Yes I knew the size but not the part number, something that you need to order by at the local parts store. The stores computers do not have the refill numbers by application and I have already been sold different refills that none of worked.

I was trying o get a definitive answer on what numbers worked. After I posted this I did some more research and came up with a list of numbers (that the Trico site still doesn't list).

I think these are Anco
U16R
19-16

and these are Trico
43-160
44-160

I was going to see what I could find and verify that they worked before I posted them.

I got some a month ago from O'Reilly's for my 1970 Chrysler. They were the only store that could get them of the stores available to me (Autozone, NAPA, Pep Boys).

I picked some up behind the counter at O'Reilly too, the only one in town.

I'm sure a lot of store have them IF you know the number or are willing to sort through a pile of different ones of the correct length. They have no way of looking them up!

I went to O'Reilly and they had the 44-160 and not the 43-160 (Trico)
I went to Car Quest next and they had a 453-160 that was correct as well, their other number was 454-160

The 43-160 is the correct vintage style with the metal frame. The 44-160 will work but has an integral plastic frame, otherwise the same.

453-160 on the left, 44-160 on the right.

Both have been tested and work.
I have not located the other two numbers but in time I would like to see if they will work.

So the list that is good

Correct metal frame style
Trico 43-160
CarQuest 453-160

Functioning substitutes
Trico 44-160
CarQuest 454-160

Yes, but that is not a refill and why pay for the frame that you do not need.
There are many that want to keep their original parts.
I never say the frame being a service item, somewhere in the 80's this became the way it was done and the practice has been pushed back to older cars.
My Barracuda still has the anti lift wings on it, no way I'm replacing them with some generic replacement.

Alan

right, i know it is not a refill, but a good alternative if one can't be found. i can understand wanting original parts but there isn't ant practical way to restore these and they will lose their "spring" after a while causing the blade to not fully contact the windshield. something like this i would consider a consumable item.

Sorry Alan,
I missed your reply.
I will get a few pairs based on your posts.
Appreciate the help everyone!

I called all the local auto parts stores near me for some wiper refills for my 1967 Fury. They could not find them for me. My refills are 18 inches long. If someone knows of a source let me know, thanks John.

As stated previously they cannot look them up by application but they do exist if you know the numbers

These should be the 18" numbers

Trico 43-180
CarQuest 453-180

Functioning substitutes
Trico 44-180
CarQuest 454-180

Got it Alan.
I haven't had a chance to do anything with this.
I've been away on business. just got into town.

Thanks for posting those part numbers Alan, I will look around, John.

Both the places I checked had them in the back not on the rack with the others.
