Hi guys, first time posting here.I have a 76 new yorker with a 440 i just purchased.I have read some of the threads on here about the thermo quads and decided to go with an aftermarket carb.My question is this, should i go with an edelbrock or a demon? They are about the same price but i figured i would get an opinion. Thanks!

they had been trying to get it running right and replace the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor and some other stuff. It would run but missed real bad so when i got it home i checked the firing order and they had number 5 and 7 plug wires switched.I switched them back and it runs smooth just dumps fuel and faals on its face because of the carb. Not a bad buy for $600 bucks if i do say so myself>

thanks fratzog.its got a little cancer behind the right rear and the top is a little crappy but i fell in love as soon as i saw it.

I and several others have already blazed the trail for ya on this car.
Edelbrock.
You'll get a zillion suggestions, caveats, personal experiences, etc...
The last carburetor that car will ever have will be Edelbrock. After that, you're into a $3,000.00 FI system.
Edelbrock 750 electric choke vacuum secondary.

i was worried a 750 might be a bit much for this year 440.Will a 625 cfm Or 650 be to small?i just figured on the low compression 440s around 650 would be good.

I have the 600 Performer on mine. Don't feel any different performance wise from the 850 ThermoQuad it replaced.

Don't forget, these engines personified the worst of how bad engines were in 1976.

I've got the new 750 street demon on my 440 in the 68 d100 no complaints...

Go with thunder series 750 eddy. Air valve for secondary is on a spring and easy to adjust the counter wieght secondaries on the afb style are not easy slow to act if you go to far had to get back to where you were. 600 is too small for a 440 but jetting for acceptable milage seems to be very close, stock 750 is probably a little fat at cruise hence the worst mileage. Your thermoquad only has 3 problem if you take some time and search some info on the internet
1. Your floats are heavy( impregnated with lots of crap from fuel) running high float bowl level.
2.The square o ring seals at the bottom of float bowl are deteriorated ( most likely the cause)
3. You air valve is opening too early, must fix overly rich condition first.
If you are ditching the thermoquad I'll take it off your hands, throw it in the box that your new carb comes in and send it to me I'll pay shipping.

I would go with a 625cfm street demon after what i have read about them, seems to be the best of both worlds. But I personally think they look sort of odd tho...

Edelbrock.

That - or find an old AFB - 650 to 750 CFM.
