have a 1965 300L which is going to be parted out. Minnesota car so rusty on the bottom, but lots of good misc. stuff as it is mostly all there. Just pulled a 1970 dart swinger out of a nearby field for my 16 yo son and need to find some parts. Thought this might help. I am interested in trading etc, my 300 is a 413 automatic with power interior and 413 dana rear. my dart is 6 banger with 3 on tree. can get pics of parts you might like to see.

cbodygearslammer75 - The original engine is sitting in my pole barn, the car has a 383 in it. I am willing to investigate the original engine, what information would you like to see. I will take pictures of whatever you like and post/forward as needed to make certain you understand what I have. Please let me know.

It is thought to be a HP 413, but need to read the number for verification. What I need you guys to help me with is where are the numbers which I need to take a picture of? Sorry, I am RPM addicted which kinda makes me a small block guy. I have this engine on a dolly in my pole barn, but cannot seem to locate the numbers of interest, please a little guidance would be greatly appreciated.

next in line

If Cbodygearslammer doesn't buy, let me know or keep me in line.

Thanks,

engine id

The numbers are on a pad next to the distributor hole.

OK - You referring to a flat machined pad on a flat just forward of the distributor, just leftward (towards driver side) of center? If yes, the only thing on this pad is a letter "A", which is not a cast number, but rather a "punch toll" type. This doesn't seem to me like it is what we are looking for. Also very few numbers cast into the the driver side of the block. Mrmopartech has previously sent me information on engine id ( in the FABO forum)and from his info I expected a cast number of 7 digits or more, which is not there. Again, the engine is sitting on a dolly in my barn and readily accessible, though it has NOT been disassembled. Any other suggestions out there?

The "A" is the year code - 1965. There should also be "413" or "41" on the pad stamped the same way.

Where do I go from here?

Guys - I have no other numbers here, am posting a pic so you can see. Any other advice?

Sorry about slow response, things could be better. P1010034.jpg

That is odd. I've never seen a blank RB pad like that. There should also be a cast date on the right, (passenger) side of the block, toward the rear plus a "D or N" and a production clock. The cast ID number will be on the left, (driver) side.

Here are some examples. This is a 1969 440 HP engine

I have had, and seen a ton of BB'd with a blank stamping pad. Very common. OTC and warranty replacement blocks came with no I.D. stampings. Just stampings about special specs about the block such as oversized bearings.

I definitely have the same area for the stamp and the "A" is even in the correct location as the example you provided. I will see if I can get a decent pic of the casting numbers and post also, similar to what you have provided, for you to see as well. I would note that there are definitely numbers on the drivers side of the block, but do not think there are on the passenger side. I do know there is a small machined at the bottom of the block on the passenger side, but I know this is also blank. Let me see what I can find now that I am clearer on where to look and what to look for.

thanks,

More Pics of block

Here is a picture of the only cast number on the drivers side of the block.

Here is a picture of what appears to be a date code, note that it is on the passenger side of the block, looks like 8/7/68?

Here is a picture of a cast number on the passenger head.

Here is a picture of the car and the tag on the header in the engine compartment.

Not certain how this tag decodes, the car is a 300L, 1965. If I understand what you all are trying to tell me, sounds like it is a replacement? Any information is appreciated, though I suspect it is not a good item for a resto project. Guidance is appreciated, my son wants to install into a 70 dart project if it is not of value to a resto project. please do give me your opinion, noting I do have big boy pants on!

Is it safe to say that this is not of value to a resto and I would be OK to plan on putting it into my Dart project?

The 300L's are barely worth much more, if any, than just the 300's. L's just get no love. Looking at the car, off hand?
Go with the BB A-body!!!
