Previous owner did a really bad sealer job and it's coming off. So bad it's blocking pickup and causing starvation

im having a hard time finding news stuff - anybody have info on where/ if they exists
and $$

i think my tank is in ok shape so would getting it boiled n resealed
be easier/cheaper?
my radiator could use some love also maybe I can just get a 2 for 1 Jon at the radiator shop.....:/

I don't know of anyone making '65 Polara/Monaco gas tanks, if you find one let me know. I would take your tank to a good radiator shop and have them look at it, and see what they have to say about it. The old re-seal job coming off is just going to keep giving you problems until you have it fixed. Good luck.

thanks - I figured if anyone would know of a repop it would be here so Im gonna assume at this point they aren't being made.

Ill be dropping the tank off for vatting and resealing along with my radiator for a Rod/Repair so I can polish up the tanks to at least make me feel prettier spending all that coin! LOL

How about Fuel line and sending unit - any suggestions??

thanks guys - I will post pics of the repairs - planning to remove the tanks in next couple nights

I think we kind of determined that some of the later models, if memory serves me correctly like 67 or 68 are the same size and will fit but don't have all the same vent lines.

I used this company for brake and fuel lines quality product. It was recommend to me on this forum. http://inlinetube.com/Preformed Lines/Web Line Listings/ocatalog.htm

I saved this site to for tank restoration. This is who my local radiator/ fuel tank shop uses if a persons tank is too far gone. No personal experience, they give a range between $295 to 395. They show a tank where the top half of the tank is gone. Maybe someone will comment about them. http://www.gas-tank.com/

I can't comment on there being another tank that you can make work, because I don't know. As far as a sending unit goes, if yours works keep using it, the reproductions leave a LOT to be desired.

Moyers rebuilt my tank for the 65 Newport and it turned out awesome. There is a place in New York that can restore the sending unit. They did mine for a little more than the repros cost and it works perfectly. Just Google "fuel sending unit restoration" and the place will pop up, Both places were easy to deal with and had very reasonable turn around times.

Thanks that is good to know the company I have dealt with all my radiator is very reputable, but I still had not spoke to anyone who actually has had their fuel tank restored.

The sealing they did is only temporary so I will need to use them in the future.

I looked for almost 2 years for one. Finally had my original restored. About 2 weeks later, I see one on ebay for $50.00. I'm kicking myself in the backside for not buying that one as well as getting the original done. What I have learned is if you find anything for a 65 Dodge Monaco in good condition and reasonably priced...just buy it. Never know when you can pay it forward.

ok - so the tank is being boiled as I type - which definitely needs to be done - check out just some of what was floating around in there! But when I dropped it to take to the shop there wasn't any debris clogging the pickup and the fuel line is not impeded either! So Im thinking I might still have the same problem - fuel starvation.

So what else could cause this issue? Could it be fuel cap??? Ive got an aftermarket cap on the tank from the previous owner and I don't think it is a vented type - is this maybe the wrong cap? I don't know what originally came on our cars

hahah - well noted Marian!!! it does seem we have the hardest of the hard to find model!

I've had my 383 car for 23 and a half years now and I'm glad I bought what I did when I did. Parts were going to be for this car some day....but of course they will be used on the 426 car instead. Wish I could have bought doubles of everything I found!!

Hopefully Detroit Matt will see this he was having the same problem this summer and went through everything. There is a thread somewhere discussing several aspects of the fuel starvation, but I can't remember what he came up with. I looked and couldn't find the thread.

Could be clogged fuel filter, could be weak fuel pump......

sorry guys thought I qualified these at the beginning but maybe not - Fuel Pump replaced when the tank was dropped and the crap found in it - Fuel filter added PRE pump at that time and filter PRE carb replaced at that time

If I let the car sit for the night the precarb fuel filter site bowl will fill quickly and completely - and left sitting idle it will stay fairly full

but once under load and WOT it empties and stays empty and runs like your running out of gas.

I had a similar problem like that with my car. My fuel feed line by the tank had a pinhole, and it was sucking air. My fuel filter would never fill all the way..... I also had stumbling when out running. Once I fixed that no more issues.
