1970 300H Documents

Well, Chrysler has gone to ridiculous lengths for the sake of tiny nuances, but nobody has been able to show me different part numbers or a pic of an E body tip beside these "Hurst tips" or any proof that they were not a parts bin grab (like most of the Hurst package).

So until then, I'll toss it up to the likes of many parts dealers selling super "rare" parts for ridiculous prices to the car hobby. As I said, I've seen the tips and could see no differences to the E body and nobody has ever been able to produce any documentation to me stating otherwise.

Ironically, my friend in restoring his Hurst wound up using Chrysler stock turn down exhaust tips due to the E body tip cost. He wouldn't pay what they wanted and he preferred the turn down look.

Hi I am a new member.he said he posted pictures off the 300H sales book? I can't open it .am I doing something wrong ?

Speaking of color on a Hurst Mr C. I'm not the expertz expert by any means but I've owned one for 16+ yearz from the early-mid '80s to '99 and I've observed more then ah few. I think the most at one time in the same place iz kinda telling tho'. It took place at the 300 int. inc. meet at Point Pelee, Ontario in '89. We had Seven, Yeah 7 of those beautyz lined up all in ah row and to every onez amazement there were not two that had the same color Sauterne Mist on 'um and mine was one of four out of the seven there that weekend that were still wearing the factory paint. Ah couple thingz were decided that weekend how ever. We all know that that Sauturne Mist iz ah G.M color, no arguement to that. The Spinicker white waz easy to lay down consistently. (no metalic) How ever if any one haz ever tried to lay down Metalic paint regardless of color A few thingz become apparent quickly no matter which type of gun iz being used. And I think we can all agree that robots were not in use in 1970. Those 485 plus one convertible were plucked from the entire production run starting in early January of that year and continuing to be added from the assembly line for several months until that number waz reached. Variables would be humidity changes, air pressure to the gun, distance to the panel, adjustments to the gun nozzle, individual shooterz time on target as to how he-she waves the gun. Make an Olds gathering some time and check out the Hurst W-30s in attendance and count the shadez of Sauturne Mist you see. I'm done, Jer

Having personally sprayed metallics back in the day, I concur with Jer's statement above. However, with the tech the shops have today anything can be matched perfectly, if you can find the correct "original" color, which may be impossible.

As as for the tips, I can't imagine on Gods Green earth why Chrysler would waste time and money designing and manufacturing three separate types of chrome tips, that all look the same. Forget part numbers, they changed depending on who was typing in information that day, or so it seems, or who was in charge of inventory at the time. Until we see three NOS tips in the original packaging with three different part numbers from 1970, it can be assumed that these were "parts bin grabs".

OOPZ. I forgot to add one veriable and way important thing. ALL those New Port Hurstz to be, were assembled and shot white at Chrysler and then transported to Hurst's facilities in Detroit where the unique Hurst body partz were added and the Sauturne mist shot over the spinaker white. Sorry 'bout that folkz, dum dum Jer

And to add to that, no disassemblies of any Kind for the Accent paint and dark Brown (nearly black but not black) pinstripes, just sloppy taping with overspray to the inner Fenders, door weatherstrip, door handles etc.

I have a set of the tips N.O.S bought them in the 80's they are for a 1970 Fury GT/Hurst, The Hurst tip are different then Challenger Tips but they do look similar, the Fury tips have a extender pipe that goes out about 12" and then has a almost 45 degree turn at the end along with a hook type bracket on top.

Will get them, no box. Bought them at Carlisle from a guy who had a 6 Pack Fury GT that was hit hard in front. Wish i had money to buy that too.

Thank you! You're the first person to ever be able to show me some kind of proof they were different. If I were restoring a Hurst, I'd use the kit that's available as the differences are in the hangar tab and the bent tube extension which are both easily overcome.

Don't thank me thank Howard! .....he is my mentor!! lol! .....these will make nice garage wall hangers, but also good reference material!

......you could have looked in the parts manual as well.

To my knowledge the majority of the 70 Hurst 300's did not have these tips from the factory.

A majority of the 70 Sport Fury GT's did, but not all.

"Here is a picture of a 70 GT (Right) tip along side a Challenger tip (Left). Many people think the shape of the tail is the only difference. However as you can see the GT tip also has a built in hanger."

Not 100 % sure, but I think the tip for the Sport Fury GT is identical to the one for the 300 Hurst.
