Two tone Chryslers-do they exist?

What's wrong with the '68s?? '68 is my favorite year for B bodies accross the board. Is it because the tags are different?

Hey matt,
The 68' tags have a similar script to 67's, but more codes, and much more information. But no VIN# yet. 69' got the VIN number.

good question.
Some points:

You need to have a lot of pics and know your codes to find reproduction tags. Those are often faked on genuine muscle cars. So you need to learn about specific details, ie what did a certain plant print on it in a certain model year or time of the year. The more information (FT pics) you collect the more you learn and can identify false/non original tags. That is needed in B&E-Body world (exspecially 68-71 models) if you like to buy them.

And Full size car Fender tags?
I have never seen a C-Body tag that looked remanufactured/reproduced.
Most of the C-Bodies are still very original. So the knowledge is usually not needed to identify false tags.
Another point is: Usually the hoods on C-Bodys are closed at our car shows so often you don't have a chance to photograph them. Mostly Muscle cars have their hood popped up.

I collected some C-body tags over the years (ie SFGT tags) or other stuff that I really liked but didn't document all fuselage Cs.

No surprise but I do the same thing for the same reasons.

However, I find myself spending a lot more time with C bodies and taking pictures of tags than I did before simply because I know so very little about the cars and C body tag layout. C body tags are harder to find due to lower numbers of cars at shows, hoods do tend to be closed and the C body owners just aren't into the numbers crunching/fender tag part of the hobby as the E, B and A guys are. That means I have to do a lot more research on my own as there aren't that many people that want to discuss the nuances of C body fender tags.

One part of my trip to Carlisle last year that was most enjoyable was spending time with some of the guys on this Board and learning about their cars (You know who you are and thanks again for the hospitality) and being able to compare tags between cars in person.

I know the basics of the tags and have enjoyed decoding them for years I just wonder why Carsten's interest in them doesn't include the '68 and earlier cars.

The 69' and newer tags are much more Informative, and accurate. The fed's had a big Influence on it, as theft was rampant, and the Insurance Industry was screaming.

Hi Matt,

as you wrote the 68 tags are very different. And you need the VIN, too to have a compilation that makes sense.

There are the same specific things (ie how a plant stamped on a tag for inspection or how the font looks a like)
It is easy to decode the main things from a 68 tag (engine, trans, paint, interieur, SPD etc) but gets into more busy work if it comes to the finer details (ie moldings etc).
