I was idling in traffic on the freeway home and my car stalled. I determined that there was no fuel reaching the carburetor. I figured it was a clogged fuel filter, so I changed it and it worked. To make sure, I blew through the old filter and very little air could make it through. Not 50 miles later I was idling in traffic again and the same thing happened.

I figure there are contaminants in the fuel tank and that my tank needs to be serviced, but it was serviced in late 2006 by a very trustworthy shop.Any ideas? Thanks for your input.

Im not much of a mechanic but a very similar thing was happening to me. We eventually came to the conclusion that she (Lucille-69 Newport)was vapor locking. When it would happen to me, I would let her cooldown for an hour or so then unhook the fuel line where it goes into the carb and suck gas up to that point and she would run good enough to get her to a place she could really cool down....another time it was doing it, i took it into the shop and they told me that the coil wire that goes to the distrib was bad......they changed it and she rode fine for a while after that. Again, im not a mechanic but these are some thiings i did.... hope it helps.

haveyou let your tank run dry at any time.sometimes after a tank has run dry anything on the bottom drys up and greaks loose then after you gas up it will make it way inyo your system . maybe the screen/sock in the tank is clogged. you can disconnect your fuel line before your pump or if filter is before pump disconnect at filter, and blow air inyo the tank and lines. and or your gas cap could be bad.
