tried to google it came up with two results 195/75/14 and 225/75/15 and what's currently on the car is 215/70/14

i can find the 195 with no problem at the tire stores so i can be on my way to fixing the huge error with the speedometer which is roughly 33mph off @_@ just hope that's not in kph

Hope it's not in kph also, that was my first thought. But you would like hominid would be marked as such.

Wouldn't the taller tired, 225/75/15 get the speedometer down to the correct speed instead of the 195/75/14? I had smaller rear tires and Speedo read 10 over, went bigger and speed reads 5 over. 195 seems awfully small for the car.

Wait !!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the car so we know what the standard size was ?

I'm starting a new topic on "How To Problem Solve" .:soapbox:

That's how you start. Thank you sir.

The tranny speedometer gear is for 8.55-14 tires.

And since he is running that size already, he needs to buy the correct speedometer gear.

Pick the correct gear for your rear end ratio.

it's for a 68 newport. and yes i did see those pages too when i did my search

Can't figure out the question precisely. I thought it was about the correct tire size as well which would be going after Stan's Chart the 225/75/14. Probably some other issue apart from the 215 14 Inch tires if it's 33 mph off, that's an awful lot.

consulted a with one of my sources which sent me a few links to check out and it's 8.55x14, it's looking like i'll stay with the size it currently has at 215/75r14
