And I'm saying that there is no later year tank that can be used on a 65 Fury because of the side filler pipe. This 65 Monaco has a rear filler pipe, like the 66+ tanks. I say the difference is in the vent lines which were different in the 65 and 66+ tanks.
This is only an intelligent guess.
But until someone slides under their damn car (hint hint) and gets dimensions, we'll go back and forth on this until the damn cows come home.

I've put in my effort to try and help out.... :BangHead:

You could at least buy a '65 Dodge and take the tanks out of both cars and compare them ! Come on, where's your dedication ? :yes_no:

Just measured my tank, using the fanges,it measures 40" long,29" wide,8" deep front,5"deep rear, and is offset favoring the driver's side framerail.

What's to prevent you from using a new 66-68 tank, cutting the fill hole out of the 65 tank and welding it into the new tank after welding the rear fill closed?

Kevin

He doesn't need to modify a tank. His fill pipe location matches the new tank's fill pipe position.

I guess I should have read it all. :eek:ops: :toothy10: For some reason I assumed that all 65 C-bodies were side filled.

So just out of curiosity, if we were talking about a 65 Fury instead of a Monaco, would I have a viable solution?

Kevin

My dimensions were rough. Add in the flanges which I didn't, I'd say they match up measurement wise.
When I was underneath my car yesterday measuring,it looked exactly like your pic of the 67 Newport commando 1.Favors the drivers side frame rail, exhaust was identical,it looked exactly like the pic you posted of the underside of your car.I ended up ordering the tank from AMD for a 67-73 C body with 2 vents, cost of 319.00 plus shipping puts it at $345.00.

In the case of a 65 Fury, you're S.o.o.L.

Let us know how it fits.

Tank arrived today, and if all goes as planned it will be installed on Friday the 25th. At first glance the tanks look identical;hopefully I won't have any surprises.

If you would, could you post some side by side pictures of the new and old tanks ? Thanks.

new tank is in

As you can see in the pics. new tank was 2 inches longer, but fit in same location without any modifications.Tank was supposedly for 67-73 C-body only, would not fit 65 or 66.IMG_0931.jpgIMG_0939.jpgIMG_0940.jpgIMG_0941.jpg

The extra 2 inches weren't a factor at all.Everything went back together without any issues, and we ended up replacing the fuel line all the way to the pump just for added insurance.Only problem we did have was the gas gauge is now working but its not accurate. We started with 5 gallons of gas and I figured it would probably read about 1/4 of a tank.Instead it was reading 3/4.We did use a new sending unit that was marked for 65-66 C-bodies with 5/16 line.

The sending units they sell these days are garbage.
You can go thru a 1/2 dz before you get one that is in spec.
