Post Pictures of your torque boxes please!

Hi everyone,
I need pictures of the torque boxes hiding under your Slab c body convertible.

I am about to pick up where I left off in the spring and get this car back on the road!

I need pics of what the torque boxes or covers look like so I can fab a pair up for my 66 Polara.

Show me what you got!

Well I didn't get any replies so I made one up tonight.

It's not stock factory but it should do the trick once I weld it up.
Holes to drill so I can spot weld them into place once they are done.
I have to make the other side yet before I call it completed.

I intend on making templates to share with everyone here.

Thanks, I had no choice in the matter really, the torque box makers wouldn't say if they fit a C body plus the cost is insane at $400 a pair for a couple pieces of stamped tin metal...

I was going to make a set for my Charger even though they are readily available I'm too cheap to pay that for bent sheet steel that is under the car.

What Guage or thickness is proper for stuff like torque boxes?

I think it is 16 or 18 gauge. I used some left overs from an old server rack we had at work!

I'll mic it out and let you know.

I measured the metal I used today and at mic'd out at .080" which is real close to 14 gauge.

Either what's left of the original is 16 or 18 gauge or it is so severely rotted that it seems that they were thin metal to begin with..

I'll mach up some templates later today as well.

I'm thinking of taking the ones I made today to a local laser cutting shop to see how much they would charge for a pair.

Are these torque boxes only useful to strengthen up a convertible body or does it make sense to add them to a hardtop too?

You can add torque boxes to any car. it is for rigidity, the hemi's got them from the factory.
This is usually how most car enthusiasts can tell right away if the hemi car they are looking at is a legit factory hemi.

Not the end all be all but it is a quick way to determine if it started life as a HP car.
