Pertronix ignition problems

Since you state you have spark from the coil I'd say your problem is between the coil and plugs. I'd check, cap for cracks, make sure the rotor is still good, I.e. contacts haven't broken or severely erroded, bad coil to cap wire yada yada.

*edit just read #2.
Fixed it. It's all right there.

Yellow Keeble,
Reading your symptoms if you are getting spark from the coil your distributor is fine. Look for a bad wire from the coil to cap, bad cap, or bad rotor.

So oustiside of the polling and opinion on installing newer technology....does anyone have a suggestion on how to get me back on the road?

The ballast resistor has been removed because the ignition coil needs 12v.

Have you done or checked anything I said in post #2. You don't need to remove the ballast to do that. You have power to the coil which means spark is getting to the dist, check. But your not getting spark to the plug. Your problems lie in the dist., why? What'd you do with ballast wiring? Fix It, or put ballast wiring back the way is was and get back to us if works. Make sure connections are tight.

If I remember correctly, the Igniter III requires the ballast or resistor wire to be bypassed with a full 12V to the coil and distributor when in the run position. So, with that said and you're getting spark everywhere, are you outta gas?

I have Pertronics II's with stock coils in my Barracuda and Road Runner and feel that the cars start better and run just fine with them. I do know of someone who had a Pertronics III in their car which gave them problems with the car not running right. They finally gave up on it and went to a Pertronics II set up. My Fury has points in it and is running well so I will leave it alone for now. I haven't decided if I'll change them out or not.

Repalced the ignition coil and adjusted the timing and the beast fired up. Just in time for a nice week in the 70's. God is smiling on thi s dog today. Thanks for the help everyone.

The new coil is a Pertronixs III, as th ePErtronix help line pointed out that the ignitior II module I have is meant to run with the coil III and not the coil II that was installed.

Wait, now I'm really confused? You are running a #II unit with a #III coil now? That's pretty mucked up! They're telling you that the unit won't work with it's married coil,[II on II] and that you have to use the new coil?[III on II]
I think I need to go on their site and do some homework reading.
