Wollfen's 1971 Sport Fury GT !

made the decision today for myself...will be going BF GOODRICH TA...seems to be the only happy medium out there
I'm also starting to think this is the only option, unless I call Goodyear and beg them to produce a set of H70 -15 tires! How likely is that?

was actually a combination of looks and safety for me re the radials vrs bias ply...the bias ply ...well..safety first

the repros are not done by Goodyear but John Kelsey.
And no, he won't reproduce them. I have talked to him several times.
Simply not enough interest.

safety: Sure radials are more save than bias ply tires but then I don't want to compare the other safety details vs a modern car either. I choose Bias ply simply due to the looks

Does it slow down the aging process if they are in dry storage and barely ever see daylight? I plan on putting on some Cooper Cobra tires I got with some rims a few years back, they still have the stickers on them.

yes, they do age, too.
Of course way less compared to being on a car parked outside.
But rubber simply looses its softener.
So they get hard and when being used start to crack faster

Sunlight does set tires off faster so yes it will help to keep them in the dark, but it wont save them from becoming brittle eventually. Something to do with the Sulfur molecules lining up into strings over time making the tire break down easier.

A friend of mine bought some new Cooper radial tires for his Coronet recently. Within 3 weeks of purchase, the sidewalls were starting to show cracks in them! He called the dealer he bought them from and was told that unless you could slip a quarter into the cracks, they were safe to use, and that they would do nothing about the cracks he is seeing in such a short time. Needless to say, he isn't buying that brand anymore.

What were the manufacture dates of the tires? Some dealers sell off old inventory.

The skinny here is starting in 2000 tires have a birthday on them. Warehouses and retailers were always bad about rotating their inventories especially with slower moving stock. Don't buy without first checking the date... current recommendations are 6-7 years depending on source. The dealerships have already started refusing service to out of date tires, more a sales tactic in my opinion... but my wife had a little snot nose from Lexus roadside assistance replace a battery, but he would not air up tires. She was retrieving her mother to bring to Orlando and had to drive to the dealer to get the tires inspected/ aired up. They still had half their tread life...I replaced them of course, but resent the little dickhead that screwed around with her instead of helping. He was likely doing just as he had been trained... make the sale.

I wisely restarted the conversation about how many times I taught her to air tires herself and how she removes the air gauge every time she cleans the glove box...didn't go as well as I had hoped

Are you selling that Sebring

Don't see anything in this thread about a Sebring.....is there a Satellite Sebring in this stable? I'm looking for a 71-72 GTX or possible Satellite or Road Runner to stuff a drivetrain into from a parted out '71 GTX.

And of course confrats on the 71 SFGT Wollfen! I saw the for sale ad when CanCritter posted it up, started contemplating it myself. Kinda wished I had pulled the trigger on it, sounds even nicer than the ad made mention. Glad it is in good hands!

It is parked in front of the Mustang and is a 73 model. Needs a lot of work. As for the GT, yup it did turn out better than what it seemed, the rust issues I can handle without too much trouble so I am looking forward to getting my hands dirty on it next year.

I have a sports wheel here that would look good on the GT, it needs a bit of work and I will need to find a horn pad for it. What do you guys think? Should I put it on?

I got a package in the mail today, my Christmas present to myself! 100 Bucks well spent. I didnt buy the cheapest options either. In Australia when I went to replace the brake hoses in a 1970 Model Fury, one hose would have been $98 over the counter. So much cheaper here to keep an old car going.

perty...lm stickin with rear drums as well...nothing wrong with them...
Nope you are right, the whole rear disk brake era is simply a cost cutting method on the part of the vehicle manufacturers. 80% of brake force is handled by the front disks.

It awesome to see. Keep in mind I have some SFGT odds and ends and would prefer to see them put to use rather than have them waste away on a shelf
