The pump in my '99 3500 cargo van crapped out. The dealer said I have a 35 gallon tank according to my VIN, so I ordered a pump for that tank. After dropping the tank last night, I discovered that the pump and all associated fittings are for a 32 gallon tank. There is a 3rd fitting on the 35 gallon tank I wouldn't be using. Can I use it in my van anyway? It appears to be a vent line which is not present on the 32 gal. version. Can I cap it off and call it good, or should I wait for another pump? I have to get this thing together as quickly as possible.

can't help you on that question,, BUT,,
I have found it easier instead of removing the tank
is sooooooo much easier to go in rear doors,
if carpet lift,
CUT the circular impression in floor out,
and access fuel pump thru there..
Cut a new piece slightly larger and seal it and short screws to hold
the "new" access plate over hole...

All my vans ( yes, several) had/have 35 gallon tanks ..

I have done similar things with vehicles in the past, but I am reluctant to do this on my van. I need access to the circular retainer that holds the pump in. I do not have that special tool which can be used to remove it (maybe I should invest in it). I wound up using a leather belt instead. It was primitive, but it worked. Anyway, it's a moot point because the pump was bad. There was a huge crack in it that I did not see before. The correct one was ordered by my supplier on an emergency basis, and it's all together now. I had to use ratchet straps to hoist the tank into position, and it fought me every step of the way, but it came together. Thank you for the advice!
