Hi, im pretty new to diy car stuff but willing to give anything i can do a try. sorry if some of the stuff i ask is really basic but its only because i havent done it before. but anyway i went to get a wheel allignment for my 66 fury and they came back and said it would be a waste of time as my front end is shot.

i think they might be trying to rip me off as i replaced the front shocks over a year ago and they wrote on the report they should be replaced.

anyway, what needs to be replaced are my lower ball joints (3-4mm excessive clearance),

lower control arm and inner bushes (bushes torn out),

upper control arm and inner bushes (bushes perished),

radius rod and bushes (bushes split)

leading arm and bushes.

i have access to a press at work, so if i can remove any parts i may be able to press bushes out and press new ones in. are any of these jobs easy enough to do? or am i better off having a suspension place take care of it all?

any feedback in appreciated. thanks

Steering and brakes are tied for 1st as being the most important things on a car. Get your hands on a F.S.M. the disassembly part is not that bad, make sure you mark the upper control arm cam bolts on disassembly to get them back in the general location for reassembly. Although the play in the ball joints does not seam excessive, you have to remove them to remove the arms for the bushings. also mark your torsion bars before you remove them as they will break if you install them wrong on reassembly.

The front end is fifty years old. Replace EVERYTHING....
I agree. No short cuts or band aids in this dept.
Wirth the trouble to replace all of it INCLUDING control arm bushings. They can be PITA but worth it.

thanks for the replies guys.

ill get a 2nd quote and pay someone to do the work, sick of the fury sitting there!

And if you want to go with the VERY BEST QUALITY parts for this job -- let me know -- I have EVERYTHING in stock --
it sadly will not be inexpensive -- but it is once for life..............

mobileparts is the go to guy. just got my 66 fury disc pads. awesome guy to deal with. not cheap china ****. [ oops did I swear guys? ]

China and **** go together. Never heard of Chinese anything that wasn't.
Other than Ming Dynasty ****.

Ummm Chinese Food? Hello? Mmm ginger beef dumplings wonton soup sweet n sour pork mmmm getting hungry and its not even lunch yet.

Not to sound like a cock but, did you say 3 to 4mm play in the balljoints??? That is redicolously a lot and the car must drive like it has eggs for wheels. It needs to be replaced and the play in the balljoints is supposed to be 0mm, well maybe 0,001mm so they move a little.

Besides 1,000 year old vases, has anyone ever used or even heard anyone say, Wow, that's amazing. Is it genuine Chinese?

That is what the report said. I'm sure he's exaggerating a bit as it drives ok, not great but ok.
