Does anybody know of a vender that rebuilds fuel tank units.
I soldered a patch on the windings years ago, buying it some time, but it has died again. I am tired of resetting the trip odometer with every fill up. Nobody reproduces units for 71 Town & Country's. Thanks

No help directly here but I would think that most Chryco sending units would be able to be modified to work for your system...

Probably true but may not be consistent across the range.
The factory unit took into consideration the profile of the tank, a good example are tanks with cutouts/clearance for spare tires. The upper part of the sweep needs to read differently than the lower part. On my Barracuda the windings were wrapped around an irregular board to accommodate this issue.

FWIW, I have resurrected four sending units by replacing the brass float.

Two in the Newps and two in '89 Crown Vic wagons.

Much to my surprise, it is the same float for both cars- a difference of 22 years and two manufacturers.

If you haven't already, you may want to check the float for leaking.

Hope the input helps.

Understood Alan. if I was really stuck for a gauge I'd probably try a sending unit that may not read correctly as long as it didn't leave me stranded because I ran out of gas! LOL!:p
I agree that the profile of the tank needs to be taken in consideration.
For the most part our C bodies are a very shallow tank compared to the new models that are on the road today
I wonder if there are operational specs out on the internet stating what to expect from a sending unit for each model of car...

On my truck I didn't care about anything but empty, ran it dry and put two gallons in then bent the rod till it read correctly.

there are certain ohm readings at full, 1/2, and E... i dont know them offhand, but ive seen them published.

im with mr mopar - get a replacement sending unit, keep your original lock ring, and bend it until it reads close to correct.

or get a replacement sending unit, and use it to fix your original part.
