Bucket Seats?

What do you guys think of these seats in my '68? The bench seat is totally trashed and broken.My budget doesn't allow for finding factory stuff, so this is a cheap($50.00) alternative.They are heated and power leather.I will dye them blue to match the car. I think they have sort of a vintage look to them....opinions?

I'd always go for some sort of factory seat, but those don't look too bad.
 
Looks totally wrong, inappropriate, and out of place.
But for $50.00? Yah, definitely do it!
Just don't go drilling holes in the floor pan or I'll whomp on you with Dummy Stick.

How are you going to wire up the heaters? They didn't have that in 68, same with the seats if there not powered right now. Headrest is all wrong too.
 
If you are going for an overall custom look with the car then go for it. Otherwise it should be a short term solution. As mentioned above you may run the risk of electrical and fitment issues.
 
Good points all....I just want something comfortable to sit my a** in. I am sure that I can fab up adapter brackets that utilize the stock mounting points. I agree that the headrests are wrong, but they are removable. When I get them home Saturday, I will post pics of the electrics.
 
If you're going to make the heat in them functional I'd bring new wiring from under the hood that is fused. It's more work, but I think tapping in the fuse box for that kind of power requirement could be a bad idea.
 
Ordinarily I'd say skip wiring in the heater (too much draw), but I'm in Florida and you're in Maine...
As said above, run 30A wiring directly from the alternater with an in-line circuit breaker.
 
For $50 they look like a great alternative to a trashed bench seat. I would agree that the head rests don't fit the era of the car, but like you said, you can change them.

You could tap into the factory circuit breaker behind the driver's cowl vent trim for the power adjustments.

Then run a separate line for the heat.

Well. I got them for $40. They are from a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix....dark graphite.Only the drivers side is power.I don't think I will wire the heat. I don't know if they will be easy to dye though.
 
I agree with all of the prior info here... so far. Please give us pics and wiring/dyeing details when finished... I would be interested to see it.

While your at it, if you want head rests. Take a measurement of the posts and walk the junkyard... you may find something that will fit and look closer to the part. The one thing I really like about this plan is your not looking to hurt the car, it would be easy to go back to stock anytime you want.

That's a good idea. To be honest, with what the PO did to the floor pans, this car will never be a candidate for a correct restoration.I am going down to Ayotte's in late April and look for a bunch of misc stuff.I am also going to see if there is a bucket seat car down there(fingers crossed). Long range...color change and new interior after the engine/tranny swap.The goal this year is to just get it running right and enjoy it a bit.
 
I would love to see the guts of one of those 18 way, heated & cooled, infinite lumbar support, seats.

Well. . . If ya hafta have a seat. . . Then go ahead. BUT, why not sell them on CL or E-Pay for a hundred that you could use to buy a more appropriate setup?
 
Make sure you keep the originals. Unless that car is super rare or stuffed with $100 bills, I'd never consider buying a car with non-oem seats. There is a lot more too it that "making them fit"... Is the H-point (hip) the same? Will they remain mounted in a crash? What was cut electrically to make the mods?

You're certainly free to do as you like, those are just all the reasons I (as a frequent old car buyer) wouldn't consider a car modded in such a way, unless easily returned to stock.
