What parts do I need to convert my manual drum brake car to power disc. Looking at a new master cylinder from SSBC to match the disc kits from SSBC. So are there any things I should look for in a booster, extra parts, etc.?:confused::thumbsup:
 
This has been covered here many times. I will give you the pro's and con's on this. I did this conversion on my 1966 300 so the parts will be the same.
Master cylinder and booster, 1967 -68 C body dual master and booster for disc brake, they sometimes are pricey, but they are out there.
Adjustable proportioning valve to install in rear brake line.
1972 or 1973 C body spindles, the 1972 spindles use the same wheel bearings as your 66, 1973 spindles use larger wheel bearings,
rotors and bearings for the spindles you decide on.
1972 - 73 calipers and pads are the same, new disc brake hoses for the fronts.
Now in my opinion use the factory parts not a kit. EASY to get replacement parts, and designed for use on a vehicle of the same size and weight as yours. And if you shop at Rock Auto CHEAPER than a kit.

So, this is the kit that i was looking at. It says it will work with my spindles. Why get spindles and bearings from a 73?

The kits out their use a mismatch of parts to make it work, but where in the engineering behind it. Chrysler made these changes for a reason, and it can be retrofitted to your car for the same price or cheaper. Look thru the threads on the site, there must be at least 10 from members who have done this conversion.

So, 73 spindles are really hard to come by and I also really want 4-piston calipers with slotted and drilled rotors. Any stronger bearing alternatives? There also are no kits for the 73 spindles.
 
i used ECI, talk to ralph, tell him we sent you.

alot of people use scarebird - it uses what dodge truck stoppers? plenty big.

somewhere there is one that has viper stuff on it.

Are there any problems with using the spindles i have now? I really want a 4 pistom caliper and all of those are single piston
 
I did the SSBC kit on the original spindles and it installed perfectly using provided adapter plates. You will need to set up the pedal and adjust the brake light switch. Also the booster is a bit small so you might find you have step harder into the pedal but the braking I there. I have about 1000 miles on with no issues.

Nothing too fancy. MC and booster were part of the package from SSBC
 
Finally. Wilwood didn't offer any conversion kits for c body 2 or 3 years ago. That would be my choice today.
The wilwoods would end up being around $2200...while the SSBC would be $1500. Let alone MC's which wilwood is also another $300. So is wilwood worth $1000 more???

Where are you getting $2200 from..? You said you wanted 4 piston calipers and drilled n slotted rotors. That's $1000 from Wilwood for the lower end kits. And you DO NOT have to use a Wilwood master with their brakes. Wilwood is by far a better product than SSBC. I've installed both and choose Wilwood again and again over SSBC. Trust me on this one. I restore cars for a living and have done at least 50 Wilwood kits on almost every muscle car. They install like a dream and work even better.
