My next project on my 69 Fury III is a new exhaust system. I have a few ideas as what to get installed as far as pipes and mufflers but I have a question for you all as to what look to have at the rear end. What diameter of pipes at the end,,chrome tips, facing down or straight out,,how far should they extend beyond the bumper and how far apart etc, etc.
I am not trying to sound like a sicko but could you post some pics of your rear end?
Thanks!!

Turndowns if want little stealth look.
Straight if want little aggressive look.
If want to go totally crazy, Sport Fury GT tips.

If you point it out straight, you want it to get out past the body. This isn't about aesthetics, it's about sound. If you point it down, you can pull it back under the car a bit.

Very simply stated, you don't want the sound waves to bounce around under the car.

Turn downs just before the bumper is best. You may also want to have a crossover between the exhaust pipes to balance the cylinder pulses. Mellows out the tone.

I shortened my exhaust pipes a couple of inches to allow for the installation and removal of the hitch.

Rexus31 and bluefury have it right IMO. Correct OEM look with the turn-down and proper cut angle.

Would that OEM turndown look stupid with chrome tips cut at an angle to match 0 degrees? I think it probably would. I really like bluefury's setup. What size pipes at the end and the rest of the exhaust? Nice cars by the way from everyone and thanks for your thoughts.

Love the SF tips, they look totally cool...but I'm not sure they would go well with 69' rear end IMO. Turn downs?..blech...TB to my eyes...love to see something "livelier"...less, ZZZzzzz...but hey its whatever ya like.

I can see your side of this too. I would like to see some other options to look at. The Fury GT exhaust pic was nice but abit over the top for my 69 Fury III I feel.
I would like the exhaust to sound and visually represent the fact she has a Commando 440 V8

If his is like mine (TTI), which I suspect it is, then it is a 2 1/2" front to back. I need to shorten mine about an inch so the tips don't stick out past the bumper.

Exactly. Your 69' look is a lots more sedate than that black 70 GT. The GT is all balls to the wall hammer down nothing behind us matters. Yet,...your super commando 440 deserves something more than grandpa's 318 2bbl turn down pipes. Weak...IMO. Won't do it proper justice.

If you are using turn downs make them invisible like Wills (bluefury) if using tips go with 71 SF GT style if you can, if you want cheaper maybe some 68-70 Plymouth B body tips, but don't go with cheap chrome extensions at all :)

Ok I promise not to use any screw on chrome tips. Are the 71 SF GT tips as well as the 68-70 B body tips still available?
