I was looking at Eastwoods spatter paint, I noticed it needs to be top coated with a clear. Has anybody used this product? Are there other options?

I used Dupli-Color Black & Aqua Spatter/Trunk Paint
Dupli-Color TSP102 - Black & Aqua Trunk Paint | O'Reilly Auto Parts

No need for clear coat, did take several cans, best to put a black or gray base coat down to save using the trunk paint for coverage, only use for texture and color.

The Black/Aqua color matched the original perfectly.

If you don't use clear the spatter paint is porous and any underlying rust will start to show through, looks good with clear too!

I'm thinking off using dupli-color if it doesn't need to be top coated.

The duplicolor spatter is a good paint. It matches the original stuff very good. Deff needs a "flat" clear on top though. Not very strong without it.

DON'T paint over undercoating. The chemicals in the spatter break down the undercoating, softening it up, adding big brown splotches.

Do as mentinion, add a base coat of black, or silver base down. This will save you a lot of headache. The spatter paint does not go far. I have 11 cans in my trunk. Still not the greatest.

Why? If the manufacturer doesn't say so?

Ask ANYBODY who has used it without sealing it. When the unprotected splatter paint comes in contact with water, it becomes a slimy mess.
Take the advice of all that can reply with, "AMHIK".

Well I have cleaned mine after a bottle of transmission fluid spilled and I had no problems, I used Windex and rubbed pretty hard.

What brand was it?
I used Autozone`s Duplicolor brand and a week later I decided to clean up the trunk from dust with a wet rag. Guess what happened? Exactly what Commando said!!

Don't know how to respond to that Alan.
I guess the best way to handle it would be do a test patch.

If you go to DupliColor's web site, they show only the TSP10x line.
So WTF is going on if they sell two different types but only show one on their website?

TSP is lacquer based, i.e. water resistant.

I think the the "Trunk" paint has replaced the "Spatter" paint.

I got the "Spatter" at O'reilly and now their website shows the "Trunk". At the time I got it (July 2013) I needed more and located it at a different store vie their website.

I have a can of White/Gray "Spatter" that I may do a test with later.

Well, I'll murky up things a bit more, then. lol.
It was the DM "spatter paint" that I was referring to when I said it needed to be sealed.

The DM is what I used with no problems (unsealed) and what I have to test.
I may get a can of the TSP to test as well.

Damn this is getting interesting. I'm going to see if I can find a can of each formula and do a test.
