Red Deer AB show pics

. And where does one ever see a 1971 Monaco in the flesh (and black at that)!

From this link below you can see another one, but this is with black vinyl roof

I am aware of only a few black 1971 Monaco. Besides the one pictured at Red Deer in the beginning of this thread, I have one located in Finland and some time ago found from internet a picture of a black 1971 Monaco in Mexico. Dave has told about a one with bucket seats, but I guess we have not seen yet a picture of that car at this forum? If Dave has a pic of that black with buckets, maybe he could post it here.

WOW! Thank you so much for the photos 300rag. The Black Monaco pictured was my first C body, knowing it's being driven and seeing it makes my day. I purchased it August 2009 from Lethbridge where it had lived its whole life, rust free. Another young fellow got the car from the original owner in original state and promptly added custom Black cherry paint, edelbrock four barrel intake and carb and AAR style exhaust. When he became bored with it, I bought it. It came with the passenger door scar and a plate sized chunk of paint missing on the trunk. First thing I did was a complete exhaust job. Once someone ran a red and I had no choice but to T-bone them. That bent the bumper, bumper brackets, hood and cracked the grill. I had the bumper brackets straightened, did the bumper myself using my mint Polaras as a template, cut a piece of 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch Black square nylon mesh to size and attached to the grill using small black zip ties and acquired a good hood. I now have two and one was included in the sale, when I regrettably sold it. I now understand why it was never picked up. The quarter panel scar is a new one, each new owner must add to the collection. The Car- 71 Monaco coupe original Black car (Don't know if it had a vinyl roof), Ivy gold interior, High back bench, fold down armrest, working ice cold R-12 manual air, 360 727 3:23 open 8 3/4, RUST FREE! I hope the new owner cherishes his car, I know I did, the only reason his grampa was able to pry that beauty from my hands was with an unreasonable offer and knowing I would still have her sister 71 Polara. I just hope it dosen't get him in as much trouble as it got me in.

That wasn't really a battle scar, but the lower quarter has rust bubbling up. There didn't appear to be any new dents other than what you mentioned. It sounded good too. My only critique is the wheels. Just not a fan of those.

Red Deer is home for Jim and Jer. Can't wait to see the feature on your vert. Sure was a nice day wish I had gone. Last year's show was the first outing for the Fury and they even gave me a top 5 c body award (out of 8 no less). I'm sure you didn't walk away empty handed this year Peter. Don't be modest now.

Due to the low turnout of C bodies last year, they revised it to top 3.

Yeah a little too Nascarish, the raised white letters look good though. Those and the wheel arch trim (stick on I assume) appear to be the only changes I observe. I see it now in the context below your posts, and I have seen your car (here), It's amazing. But I never realized it is a four speed! Very nice.

I'll start with the C body contingent. Only seven showed up.

@3C's & a D? -- I had read a 2017 story about your old Monaco a couple of years ago, not knowing till today that it used to be yours till 2014 or so, but there was no indication of where the car was based. Thanks to @300rag, I now can place it. Thank you for sharing more info about the car and its history, some which you had alluded to in other posts (1, 2).

One question: I am still trying to understand the position of the Monaco "coat of arms" emblems on the rear fenders -- are the ones on the black Monaco that was yours original, or were they relocated when the car was repainted?

It looks like a telescope steering wheel and i think you only can have that together with the tilt option....
To my knowledge, if it telescopes it also tilts.
Nice show, thanks for the pics Pete!

I prefer keeping all the related info/questions in the same thread. For me, that beats creating a new thread and having to explain everything all over again. It also keeps the site tidier for easier searches later on.

Thanks for digging this one up ayilar! August 9, 2009, I purchased the Monaco and that was the beginning of my C body addiction. I've learnt alot in that time. Through first hand experiences and information found on this fine site. The Monaco was purchased in Lethbridge Alberta and resided around there until I brought it to Edmonton. I'm trying to remember if there was another write up done on the car around the same time? I don't recall there being so many mistakes in the article, survivor? Purchased from original owner?, 383x 360✓, and a few others. Regarding the location of the emblems, it was painted before I got it and given the slap dash quality of the job I would assume that they are where they would have been from day one.

Thanks a lot for the extra info, @3C's & a D? Any further write-up would be highly welcome: as you know first-hand, 2-door '71 Monacos and Polaras are few and far between.

Do you remember where this Monaco was built? I have a theory that the plant determines the location of the Monaco script and/or of the coat of arms on 1971 coupes. If my theory is correct, then yours was built in Belvidere (i.e., given that it came with a 360-2, its VIN would have started with DH23K1Dxxxxxx). I'd love an extra datapoint in my sample.
