Drop dead sexy! Absolutely gorgeous. Wow.

It also appears the color of the grain was matched to the interior.

That's exactly how I figure it was made but I bet it was particle board.

I hope this works out between the 2 of you. I feel like Matt was just destined to be part of this project.

Thanks for the closeup shot. Plywood needs edge trim. Solid walnut won't.

I like your thinking on this. Many are very caught up in being 100% original. My thought is if I can keep it looking original but up grade the material used, that is my choice. To see this table done in solid walnut will be outstanding.

I was planning on Matt making the tabletop. Then, my neighbor saw my Imp and we talked about it. Turns out, he has quite the woodworking shop and some 25 year-old walnut. Here are some pics of the result. I'll use satin polyurethane to finish it.

That looks so good that I'm thinking of putting one in my NYB!

Anxious to see the finished product

Me, too. I bought a high quality pedestal base that telescopes the right amount. Now, I've got to get the bottom end of that machined to screw onto the threaded stud that's in the car. Or, have an adapter fabricated. Stay tuned.

That's really coming along. As someone else stated you should do a separate thread on the recreation of the table. That way if someone else is trying to do this it will be easier to find.

I see your point. I'm hoping that since this thread is about this specific car and option package that it will show up in a site search. I should test that idea.

Edit: OK, tested searching on "Director" and this thread shows up.

Excellent, thinking outside the box. I always look at traditional avenues when it comes to cars ...aka original parts. This should come out better than the real deal
