I have a 2 door 69 New Yorker that has sentinel lighting. Is this a rare option? Did it work well? I bought it for the drive train and the rest of the car I will part out. I will sell the sentinel lighting too if anyone is interested. I just haven't seen it before and it looks cool. I will post some pictures. I'm not parting it out till the summer so I'm no rush at the moment.

Nice! What you have there is not only the Safeguard Sentinel Lighting (L41) but also the Automatic Headlight Beam Changer (L68) which was only available if the Sentinel Lighting had been ordered.

The device next to the radiator with the amber lens is the sensor for the Automatic Headlight Beam Changer. If one drove at night with the high beams on, preferrably on a lonely highway, then the headlights of an oncoming car would trigger the sensor and the lights would dim to low-beams automatically until the oncoming car had passed.

The Sentinel Lighting was not uncommon and from what I've heard worked pretty well. I think the Automatic Headlight Beam Changer is a rather rare option on Chryslers. Not sure if it worked well.

The idea itself was not new in 1969. GM pioneered it as their "Autronic Eye" beginning in 1952 on Cadillacs but it was sensitive to changing lighting conditions such as street lights making the headlights flicker between high- and low-beams. I can only assume Mopar devised a more reliable solution later.

That's kinda neat! I've got the Sentinel in my '70 mmm send me a PM when you are ready to start removing it. I'd also be interested in a few other bits. I take it the car is beyond saving?

My Imp has the Sentinel and it's one thing I haven't really put much effort into getting it working yet however I think I know what I need to get it working. The auto dimming headlight option was available on Chryslers and Imps much earlier than '69 and the sensor was up on the top of the dash. Here's one from '64.

Well after watching graveyard cars there are probably no cars beyond saving. I bought this one for the drive train. Some one backed into the drivers door and bent things up and smashed the window but it came with a extra door. I'm keeping all air conditioning parts , electric window motors and switches , all disc brake parts and the rear end. The interior is weathered from the broken window being open.the motor turns over with the key but when I added antifreeze it ran out of one of the frost plugs on the passenger side of the motor. For me it's a little to far gone to restore . I'm up here by Edmonton and I have never sent parts to anyone before so I may need a bit of help in that area. Sorry about my fromer copy of your post I'm still learning how things work

I would like to find a new home for the things I don't need like tail lights signal lights grill. Stuff like that I will take some pictures and get them posted and see what you guys think. Who knows maybe it is worth saving if someone wants to invest a lot of cash and time. I have only removed the window switches as of now.
