Personally, I believe that what exists is all imaginary.

dunno if you're serious, pullin' my leg, or just ready to move on, either way, you're kinda right with that description. :)

Quantum theory says that when we are NOT looking at it, the Universe can be in any INFINITE number of possible states .. in a sense its "imaginary" UNTIL it is observed by someone.

Its all probabilities and possibilities -- it aint really "real". Quantum superposition, with a dose of entanglement -- Einstein's "spooky action at a distance".

I'll drop all this here so this fine thread can go on ... any diehard propeller-heads like me (or who just dont have better things to be doing) should check out the classic Double Slit Experiment (first done in 1801) and "Schrödinger's cat hypothesis (in 1935).

This vids are very short. couple minutes for one, five minutes for the othre.

I had heard and discussed the twin split experiment and the video really cleared up a lot lost in translation when the guy I was talking to was trying to explain it to me a few weeks ago. I am going to do some more reading into this.

1. Double slit experient is mind-blowing aint it. How in the heck does the Universe "know" when a human (or even if its a camera) is watching and therefore act, or NOT act, a certain way?​

How can a bundle of energy be both a "wave" and a "particle" -- never mind that it choses (yes, it "choses") to be one thing or the other -- is the Universe "alive"? And how can a particle be two places at once?

And how can it instantly effect another particle that is LIGHT YEARS away .. when faster than light travel is impossible. I need my Excedrin now because all this stuff has been demonstrated in experiments :)

I was dead serious. Been reading up on this stuff for years. Had some sleepless nights over this.

2. I was just arrogant enough at age 17 to think I would be the first person in the world to come up with a quantum theory of gravity (QTOG). Which was to reconcile Einstein/Newton mechanics - how BIG things like planets and people behave, with quantum mechanics - how little things behave at atomic/subatomic sizes (the stuff EVERYTHING is made of BTW),

Turns out I wasn't nearly motivated enough, and NOT smart enough, to wrestle through all that friggin math after I got my first car and elevated status with the ladies :). College beat the dream outta me. Still I took enough advanced mathematics to be dangerous and keep the flame lit on these topics ever since.

100 years later, there STILL is not QTOG. Maybe there's hope for me?​

Doesn't the results of the double slit point to the heisenberg uncertainty principle. I love this stuff, thanks for posting it up!

You can tell where a particle is, and its momentum, but not both .. so you never really know where it is - in the WHOLE Universe - since you cannot tell BOTH properties at the same time. Hence the "uncertainty" and necessity to rely on probabalistic functions for your experiemental work.​

The rabbit hole gets deeper. Take a second look below at "collapsing the wave function". I DO happen to think there ARE parallel universes .. in fact string theory and the "multiverse" theory fit like a like glove --- else the MATH doesn't work.

Strange place we live in :) So this little vid helps puts slightly different spin on wave function collapse.

One of the main arguments against Star Trek style "Transporters" You could never reassemble every sub-atomic particle in the human body to the exact spot/orbit and momentum. ;)

I never got into any advance mathematics...couple years of calculus and physics...but have always had a fascination with physics and quantum mechanics. I try and read a couple new book on these theories every year or so.

speaking for myself, i can walk and chew gum at the same time -- nothing wrong with me. :)

i can separate and appreciate the "esoteric" from the hard and fast of "real" life.

and the future? i am pleased i lived into it another five minutes to write this. plus, its where I am gonna spend whatever few more seconds I have got left. here.

oh, that wild-haired guy with his tongue out? he also helped, indirectly, create the future we live in today .. the one where devices like were using to participate here exist. :)

Righto. among other things, you need a sh*tload of energy (from a giant machine that you'd never get into space), and you need to solve the entanglement issue .. the later the fancy term for exactly what you said this issue is.

Dissassemble a human body, reassemble the 7 billion billion billon atoms (7 times 10 to the 27th power) in it someplace else -- FAITHFULLY. Wow .. dunno about that one even IF the other issues got solved.

who knows though. 120 years ago there were no airplanes. 500 years from now we could have warp drive (the guys and gals are already close to creating warp bubbles).

Unfortunately, so much of quantum physics is all theoretical. Theories based on other theories (equations) that reflect observable effects but like the double slit, are plainly missing information. The matter experiments they are currently doing I feel have no place being done on earth. Too much we simply don't know and the dice are too big.

i promise i wont start a fight ..not my style. and i dont take stuff personally ..unless somebody calls me names :).

i have a view about quantum physics in vacuum that you (or anyone) can comment on on?

There is a much bigger layer to get to once you really start talking about all this. I'm sure you are aware that even electrons are not particles like most people think about but we use it as a representation of what we know is there. In fact, when you "shoot" a single electron what we actually are creating is an emission. Mathematically we know it's there but it's composition is still as mystery.

We don't even know what gravity "is". We can describe it and we have formulas that describe anti gravity but as we really can't explain gravity, anti gravity is only the balance for it. Just like dark matter. They've got formulas for it and formulas to support those formulas. And used those formulas in other formulas that had expected results but ultimately we don't really know what any of it is other than we can describe it mathematically.

No offense here... the advantage is that none of us can be proven right or wrong!

yes thanks for that clarication.

the math, though tortured and tenuous, is still pretty good. thats how they found black holes before ever observing one, let alone finding them in the center of every galaxy.

quantum sizes though .. Planck lengths, ""strings" (if they exist) .. this stuff is small!

Freeman Dyson gave a scale. compare the Earth to the size of the Universe, compare Earth to size of an atom, then compare size of atom to the size of a string.

All the same orders of magnitude .. a string is unimaginably small ..NO WAY it can be "seen" except with "math". :)
