Fuel line question

1965 Chrysler 300. Hard fuel line that runs through the stub frame rusted out and broke. Going to attempt to replace with new. Looking for any tips. I'm assuming I'll pull the old one out through the engine compartment. Seems to be in there very firmly.
 
Did it break inside the frame?
 
This is what I did when I replaced the one on my 66 300. If the line in not completely broken, run some fish wire thru the tube from the engine side to the frame side. Pull the old line from the rear of the line, if you have the engine in the car it will never clear that way, (I have done this before). After you get the old line out, attach the fish line to the new line and feed it thru the frame.
 
I was going to suggest tying the fish line to the old line before he pulls it. If in fact it's not broken inside.
 
I believe in addition to running inside the subframe, it's held in with a couple of clips which you may not be able to see readily.

Again, once you've got it freed up from the clips, as mentioned above, most definitely attach good quality line or mechanic's wire to it, and pull the wire through when you pull the old line out, and then you'll have the wire to guide the new one in.
 
Great ideas. I had not considered the wire or fish line. Now I need to find those clips. And yes, the line broke just inside the stub frame, in the back where it exits and is joined to a rubber line. Argh.
 
There is a bolt/clip holding the tube on the front end (at least there is on a 69)

Same thing on 68's. Can you reach inside with some needle noses to grab a hold of it?
It is the same on my 66. Should only be the one retainer in the front. If it broke just as it exits the rear he should still be able to feed the line thru the tube.
 
I am currently using weed eater line to ID where a blockage is in my fuel line. It is surprisingly rigid when pushed in small tubing, and can even go through hard bends. It's a good trick for sunroof drain tubes, too. Just some FYI.
 
You can also run 5/16 ID rubber fuel hose between broken sections of line, of course, as a low budget temporary fix, provided the break is 'clean' and you don't have a bunch of dirt inside the line.
 
My parts car has the line re-routed to the outside of the frame, along the pinch weld. I see no reason not to go that route again, instead of struggling to put it back through the frame.

If you run it on the outside of the frame, it could pick up heat from the exhaust, and it would not be as safe if you got into an accident. The factory did it that way for a reason.

Good point, but being along the pinch weld, the stub frame comes between it and the exhaust.
