The Bluesmobile

Did you fix the burned out stop lamp on the outer left?

I did as a matter a fact. Stole a couple bulbs from the Newport lol. One reverse light was working, now both out. Changed a bulb no difference. Might be a grounding problem, idk... revers lights not a huge concern. Front running light was out too.

Big concern right now is the rear u joint/possible rear end issue. I was never real happy with that conversion ujoint that I installed. I threw it on to get her back on her wheels, and mobile.

When selecting gears, or downshifting coming to a stop notice a clunk coming from out back.

Also when holding steady throttle cruising (around 40-50mph) notice a pulsating vibration. Not a terrible one, but deff there. It's a constant vibrate, smooth, vibrate, smooth, vibrate, smooth. It last a couple seconds in between each transition Stops when you let off the gas though. Hoping to high hell its that u joint and not the rear.

Next pay day or 2 I'm gonna drop it off at the local driveline shop. Maybe have the make a new driveshaft, or if it is the rear, figure out what's going on.

Also today, Sabrina and I jumped in for the ride. I turned the radio on with peter gun theme, cause I had too . There was a small bang in the back pulling outa the driveway. Figured it could've been one of the parts in the trunk, whatever. When loading groceries in from the store, notice my brand new 6x9 dangling on the trunk floor with the wires still attached. Brand new f*cking $300 set of speakers, and the plastic ring broke all the way around. First time turning the radio on:BangHead:. Now I gotta pull the package tray again, and figure out what to do.

Don't give a damn though. She's going to work tomorrow! Think I've earned it. LOL

First real trip went pretty good today. Something other then a 5minute run to town.

Driver side valve cover is developing a little leak. Needs addressed. Also she needs to make that trip to the driveline shop....

Vibration seems to smooth out around 60mph, but comes back pretty bad, and constant around 70-80mph.

Day was hot and dry, until the drive home. Nice thunderstorm came through. I got about 5mins out of the wipers, then they quit.. lol

Can't complain though. Knew the day would come for those bushings to go. I've had it 12 years, and they finally went.

But was happy for the most part. Was 95 degrees, and no overheating, or signs of getting hot. Damn does the engine bay get hot though, compared to the old 360!!

Also she is now officially a gas pig. Jesus! A little over a quarter tank of gas just to work and back! She used to get 22mpg with the old setup. This will take some getting used too.

greetings from Finland! awesome job! heres link to my friend fb page, he sells this his own made bluesmobile t-shirt/hoodie! will send everywhere. check it out! :)

Thanks guys! Like that shirt 66! Might get me one.

The car is back home after that wonderful time with the driveline shop. Man I hate farming work out...

I dropped it off a week and a half ago for the rear u joint. The shop called me a couple days later stating my driveshaft was too short, and the installed rear u joint was indeed crap. So they made her a new driveshaft, with new joints, and straps.

However after they "test" drove her they mentioned the rear end is wining, and will need a new ring and pinion. Also stated that the vibrations I was feeling were coming from my engine, and that the engine builder must not have balanced the motor the way it should. After explaining to em that this is an old cast crank Mopar 440 that is externally balanced. Blah blah blah...

I asked them to open the rear up for examining, and maybe shimming to quiet it down a bit. After a little over a week, of nothing, and "were gonna work on it tomorrow", I went and bailed her out today.

With the new shaft the vibrations are gone. She does have a slight vibration at higher RPMs, but nothing that points to anything being out of balance imo. Also the new poly motor mounts don't help either lol.

The rear does wine a bit at lower speeds, also with very slight press of the go pedal. But nothing that makes it seem like it'll gernade. I'm outa of $$ and time to do anything at the moment, still believe she will be going to Carlisle even with a little wine. What do you guys think?

The suregrip is working! I have tested it out a bit in the garage lmao.

The driveway looks good!!

Damn you've come a long way with your projects... Makes the house look great:thumbsup:

Wow Zac nice work! The car looks great and sounds fantastic!
I had a '97 Dodge pick up that had a rear end wine when I bought it with 70K miles on it and it was still wining when I sold it with 236K 12 years later, just drive it.

I think if your confident in your work! And the Bluemo is where you feel it should be for a Road Trip, then Carlisle it is!!!! IMO. Just my 2 cents, to quote another member!! Join AAA just in case, and bring a Zero balance credit card.. lol. I'd love to finally meet ya and see the car as well.. 4-5 more weeks till Carlisle..! Yaaaaaaaa!

Looks great, you are correct about feeling more with the poly mounts. I wouldn't worry about a little whine. Get some road time in and work out any little bugs then enjoy a long road trip. You have earned it. Thanks for documenting the rebuild I have enjoyed following along.
