AC kit for 1966 newport and advice on install

I would highly recommend an aftermarket universal type kit - you'll save a ton of headaches and work. Spoken by one who's installed factory air in a non air conditioned car, although mine's a 65 Polara not a 66 Chrysler but the systems are near identical and your dash is worse to work on than mine.

If your car is a factory A/C car, I would suggest repairing/updating the factory system. All the switches and ducting are already in place and will work better than an add-on unit.

A few of us have done this, using a modern rotary compressor. Do a search on here and you'll find several threads about it.

If it's not a factory A/C car, then hanging an under dash unit is the way to go.

From your post I was assuming a non AC car to start with, if that's wrong then I definitely agree with Big John, if not then back to the add on unit again.

Buy factory stuff and refurbish or buy a universal kit from Vintage Air, etc? Anyone have the parts?

About the only way you are going to get all of the factory parts is from a donor parts car. The stuff is over 50 years old and and a lot of it, such as the compressor, control and vacuum motors will probably need to be rebuilt or replaced. You can do it as long as you have the time, money and patience. An aftermarket unit will be much simpler and probably quite a bit cheaper but it won't have a stock appearance. It comes down to your personal budget and preferences.
