This has been a nagging issue that I've finally decided to do something about. My turn signal only cancels on left turns and stays engaged after right turns. Being as I'm much too young to be unknowingly driving around with a blinker on, does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

There's adjustment where the switch mounts to the bottom of the column - if you'd posted this a couple hours ago I could have taken pictures of it.......... or the issue could be a mis-positioned cam on the steering wheel.

I'm leaning toward cam on the steering wheel as the wheel was recast and I'm not certain the cam was put back in the proper position. Is there a pic of how it should be aligned in the FSM?

I can get one tomorrow before I put my wheel back on, but no, I can't find any reference to the tilt column in the FSM. At least, not in the Dodge one.

My old Monaco had the same issue, signal would not self cancel. The actual switch was broke, specifically a piece of plastic on the cancel part. Installed a repro and solved the problem.

Tilt Wheel? I replaced the switch at the bottom of the column when I restored the car.

Same as my 66 Polara, standard column. Have yet to order part for replacement.

The early tilt wheels were made by GM/Saginaw Steering. The good news is most internal parts are common and they are not hard to find. The service manual lists a couple of special tools beyond a standard wheel puller to take it part completely. On mine, the left turn tab is broken and has to be held to signal. It hasn't been enough of a pain yet to get into it.

Jon,
I just had that wheel off yesterday to work on turn signals. The turn signals weren't working at all. Turn signal stalk had become loose. Turns out it was just a loose screw that attaches the lever to the switch. Tighten it up with a little locktite on the screw, back in business. Car's running great!

The tilt column is indeed very different than their non tilt cousins.
Okay, so this is the 'plunger' or cancelling cam.

The yellow arrow is the cancelling cam and the green one is a locating guide.

This is the view inside the upper column, the arrows show the cancelling tabs. Also shown in the right turn position.

This is a bad image (shooting blind), but you can see the adjustment on the switch bracket, left side shown but one screw on each side of column.

Signalling for a left turn moves the cable out toward the driver sliding the switch aft, while a right turn is opposite (duh!), so if it's a switch adjustment that may help with which way to go. Happy hunting.

As an aside, I need to move the plunger to the new wheel first and I'm having one devil of a time figuring out how to remove the retaining ring shown at the bottom of the plunger. The fun just never stops.

Thanks! This helps a lot. I'll probably dig into this over the weekend.

So when looking at the wheel upside down, the cancel "bump" should be at about 2:30?
No, that pic was at a bit of an angle, more like 3:00. Here's another pic from a little different angle and farther back, pretty much a straight on view.

Hey Dan, glad it was an easy fix!. Worst part about replacing it was dealing with the harness at the bottom of the column. Nice to hear the old girl is running as she should! Hope you get her out to as many shows as possible. In my time with that car I attended close to 300 shows. Missed her a bit but the Cordoba made up for that. Very happy she is in a good home.
