What color is my car......

I would highly recommend SS1 yellow for your car. I loved it on my convertible, it was just "bright" enough to stand out, but not too bright a color to be offensive.

This is what I believe to be original SS Yellow on my '68s hood.

I think you'll just have to get your paint shop to match up a color that you like. There is no way to tell. Even back in the day, the "same" color from different paint manufacturers may well look totally different. I have a bunch of original paint chip books from the 50s-80s (PPG, R&M, Ditzler, etc.), and I'm always amazed at how different the "same" color looks if I compare 2 or 3 chips - gloss, texture, size of the metallic particles, etc.

As mentioned most paint shops have scanners to match existing paint so if you are staying the same don't worry about codes.

The other consideration is that paint formulations have changed over the years and it's likely that enamel, lacquer, water based etc will all look different even though they're the "same" colour.
What folks often do is take a small painted panel like the fuel filler door to be scanned at the paint shop to determine the formulation.

All the best with the convertible.

Being a repaint there is NO way to know what this color is, it could be Ford Chevy or Amana, there were no Yellows in 68 on the Chryslers, In 67 there was.

The names for the color may be different between Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler each year but the colors are the same per code.
67 SS1 - Cream/Soft Yellow/Ivory (this color is more yellow than tan)
67 RR1 - Yellow/Yellow/Daffodil Yellow
68 SS1 - Yellow/Sunfire Yellow/(not listed for chrysler)
69 Y2 - Yellow/Sunfire Yellow/(not listed for chrysler)
69 Y3 - Cream/Yellow Gold/Antique Ivory / (Champagne Imperial)

The auto paint suppliers have a gun that can read the paint and pic a color from the database, a color this old may not show up.
A misconception on these guns is that they can match custom colors and make the formula, they are not that smart.

So either pick an original color based on seeing different cars, see if they can detect this color, or just go pick a new color.

Great tip, thank you. Local paint supplier did just that and got me a paint number to use, thank you all!

[HiQUOTE="commando1, post: 475851, member: 408"]Yellow. Not a lemon yellow but more like buttery yellow. Similar to a yellow you see on a dandelion but not too much like a daffodil.
Yellow...
