Charging system for the 1960 Dodges

Ok next question
It may sound silly but the car is 12v negative ground right?
I've got the FSM but it doesn't mention + or - ground

Battery is charged
I had to disconnect the ground cable to charge it
Is this an affect of a genny system?
Yes, negative ground.

I don't have much experience with the generator system.... There is a cutout relay that isolates the generator when the car is off, but you said there was an unknown issue with the regulator.

I would polarize the generator again, just to be on the safe side... You don't know what was done or not done and that sure couldn't hurt.

Ground on the regulator is very important with these cars. I do know that...

Here's some reading I found on the subject.. Hope it helps.

Yes, car is negative ground. Don't know why you'd have to disconnect the ground cable unless you've got a poor connection between the cable end and the battery post itself. That's not all that uncommon.

My auto charger was going wild until I disconnected the battery
I tried an older one and it kicked out the breaker in the charger a few times until I disconnected the ground cable
I figure it had something for do with the generator
