Hello to all, I am looking forward to getting to know my new C Body friends. I have two 72 Fury's. One is a 360 and the other is a U Code 440 car. I am selling my 360 car so I can finish my U code.

I'm new to this model line and would like to know what is involve with taking out the speedometer. It's a very nice car and I am trying to get a heads up from you guys in the know so I don't break or damage anything.

Not to be a smart *** but patience is all that is required.

Take apart the dash face , all Phillips screws. Speedometer cable from underneath and a few wires from underneath. It's quite simple but time consuming .

I'm certain I'm leaving something out...
 
When I was a kid I'd just start taking things apart and found that most things weren't all that difficult. Now that I'm all grown up I continue to take things apart and occasionally put them back together.
Seriously though a factory service manual for your car is a must.
 
The manual has almost always hindered me. Helped a few times. I always had one however for my old stuff
 
x2 - factory svc manual. Also, the silliest question is the one you didn't ask...
Thanks Ross, I found the service manual but it was a little vague on this procedure. The manual helped but I was just wondering if anybody has done that yet. Got it out yesterday with a broken parts. Thanks for the heads up

This is the reason I took out instrument cluster assembly. I removed and disassembled the clock. Bought an aftermarket oil gauge and disassemble that. Painted face of clock and pasted stick on numbers to face, assemble the two And came up with a factory looking oil gauge. Just thought I would share.

In addition to the removal procedures mentioned above, take care to wrap your steering column with some blue painters tape so you do not scratch it when you pull out the cluster. Also be sure to remove the gear shift indicator wand from the column before you pull the cluster so that it does not get broken. It is usually attached to the column by a screw on the gear shift collar. Also take care unhooking the wiring harness from the cluster, it has a lock tab that has to be pushed to unlock it. If you get too rough with it you can crack the circuit board.

Although I can often be wrong, I would be surprised if the speedo and guage clusters didn't have big ol' circuit boards. Even my 66s have them.

Thanks Dave, any advice or tips are greatly appreciated since I'm new to this product line. All went well, a little bit further up on this thread you can see some pictures of the removed dash assembly. That was a good tip about the steering column but I just went and dropped it out of the way. On a sidenote I saw no evidence of any circuitboard. The instrument cluster and clock are both separated and enclosed in there own casing. Thanks again, all the best, Steve

Hi and Welcome. May I ask if they are sedans and if so, what color interiors?
