GJS's 1967 Dodge Monaco 500: Beverly

Yeah it took me nearly 40 minutes on the passenger rear header bolt just to get it started. I think I said it twice while I was trying to cramp my meat hook between the header and the block to spin that bolt, why did I put headers on this.. The sound though, it makes me forget all about that bolt.
Yea, I can see that. I ran headers and dual exhaust on my 68 Monaco after I built the 440. On certain occasions I yearned for the factory 318 single exhaust set up .. but those occasions were never when bombing down the road with the windows down.. those times alone were worth the arthritis.

Mid day report: water pump is in. Gonna have the intake and valve covers on in the next few hours then I can touch up that ugly *** blue on the heads.
As Mr. Jerry Reed used to say: DO IT, SON.

Damn. First half of the day went nice anyway. Got everything set to do the intake. Put the valley pan in, then while trying to start the intake bolts I could only get one side at a time... seems the valley pan holes were just off... I got it in before the silicon set so front/back is fine but I can't get the manifold bolted down.
Oh well... sitting behind the wheel once again going "vroom vrooooom". Hit it again Monday.

Welp, she's starting to look like a Chrysler 383, anyway. Guess I didn't pay enough attention taking her apart cuz the accessories are killin me! I can't figure out what I did!
Anyways, problem for another day. I cant wait to her her run again.

My wife and I just lost our fourth house in our search. Bev just seems to know when I'm having a bad day. Bolts just kind of gravitate to their place of origin. Not that my wife is chopped liver, when the house was gone I was visibly irritated and she just said "go work on the car, it'll cheer you up". What a bunch of good women I found!

You still have that horrible design 2 piece p/s pump bracket. Make sure the rubber piece is still there and the holes are not rounded out.

Good call. Holes are not rounded but I'd be damned to find any rubber. Pump needs to be replaced anyway, something I can fix?

Nice! Bolted a lot down today. Stuff is in there kinda sloppy at the moment but we're basically at carb and ign rebuild, assemble all and drop the tank point.
My PS pump is finished, no question there, there's a good 1/4" end play in the pulley. Everything else though *should* be ready to go after a really good go through on the fuel system. Getting itchy to run her!
It's was one of those awesome days where stuff just goes as it should... Sun was out, fasteners it's finding their way into the right place... rare times indeed!

Dying for that day. Saw a 64 Polara and a 66 Monaco driving together today and was like "grrrr..I want my car right now!" It's the Fourth of July. Best day to cruise around in US iron and I'm in a damned civic!

Got her new sneakers today. Started right up and was moved to her new bay for the remainder of the work towards road readiness. Ran better than she did in the cold rainy weather that was here tha day she came home. Still a ton of tuning to do.

One lug nut started to cross thread and I can't seem to get it to not so that. Anyone know a place I can grab a new set? I figure I'll replace them all at once.

Thanks all!

Thanks man! Working hard. You never know what she'll throw at you next but, that's part of the love!

Good to see it! I work in this manner as well, no dilly-dallying as they say. Finding these chunks of time when GG is 1.5 hours away is my challenge.
Can't wait to hear Bev sing like Sills.

Vrrroooooooommmmm!

Getting there. Here's the run down:
- build carb
- build dist
- drop drain clean and install fuel tank
- route SP wires
- redo all vacuum and fuel lines
- a little electrical cleanup
- gas
- oil
- coolant
- fire her up
- "try not to die" as they say in the industry.

She's coming back together. Accessories are in place, belts all snugged:

Got some toasty wires to be attended to:

Biggest pisser is documented here;
1967 Carter AFB - metering jets
The carb has been messed with. All jets are very mangled. I got both secondaries out but the primaries, which are worse than the secondaries are stuck as someone went at em with a very blunt flat bladed driver. I've tried heating but can't get a grip. Decided since I was replacing them anyway to go in with an extractor bit but it broke off in the bore. Dunno. Might just be blow the 400 on an Eddy time.
Anyway, she's coming along. I'd love to have her rolling for the Cruising on Main day in early Augustbur I guess we'll see bout that.
Be good!

It did however occur to me that I'd not tried to clean her at all. So I grabbed a bottle of fantastic and it the inner fender and let it soak for a sec then wiped it... you can see the difference between the firewall and the fender lip... I think she'll do just fine.. god love her!
