Finally got the old newport in the garage yesterday. Had to remove the bumper-ettes in order for her to fit. The door just barely hits the tip of the bumper, but shes in!

Anywhase, while the car is in, I'd like to do a little tinkering on her. Since she is out of the weather, and don't need to worry about the rain, I wanna pull the sunroof out, and try to get it working.

Since I've had the car the roof has never worked. I've pulled it back a couple times to take a peak, but never go any further then that. The motor worked when I first got her, but after years of sitting, has seemed to stop working.

I need to get some manuals on this car, and have only found a couple pages online that give little help.

Judgine by the one diagram, the door needs to be slid back, then up and out. Does this seem right?

So far I've got the door back a few inches

These parts were in the glovebox, and they look to go with the sunroof..

Anyone know how to get this roof out? Any help appreciated!
Thanks!

shiiittt... I've got a sawzall.. might have to dig it out. sure would make life a whole lot easier. Any certain lines I should follow with it??

Seriously. Just pull the headliner and start working backwards and unscrew everything in sight as you come to them.
How hard can it be?

I pulled the passenger side of the headliner down, and saw that it was all boxed in. I was also under the impression that everything was boxed in, and it had to come out through the top... I guess I'm wrong. Alright, headliner is a coming out.

Thanks stan!

How's this coming along? I have a 71 300 with sunroof problems. I'm interested to see how you fix this.

I still need to dig into it. I started to, and removed most of the interior. But put it back together for the car to be viewed as it is for sale. After im done messing with the engine i got hopefully I`ll dig into it.

Ill let you know how it goes once I get into it.

Good luck Zac.

That's exactly the reason why I don't want a sunroof car........I don't have a garage either.

Thanks bob! Only thing Im nervous about is the headliner. Afraid I wont be able to get a new one back in as nice as the factory.... But as Ross said I need to "man up" and get it out of there. lol it needs to be replaced anyway.

The sunroof itself doesnt seem to hard, just getting it out will be fun.

If you could find a car with a working sunroof then you should be good. Deff would need a garage to tinker with it though.

One piece molded composite material one like this? Piece of cake.

I wish it was... But its not. It has the support ribs that run through the material then attach to the sides of the roof.

The front half is all glued in to the foam pieces that surround the sunroof, and somehow tucked up and under the sunroof outer edge. The fun part would be clamping it down just right for the glue to dry around the sunroof edge.

So, Zac, the manual crank won't work either?

Sorry Ross, somehow missed your post...

Nope, the manual crank wont work either. It does turn, and move the cables in the front a bit, but the cables are all bunched up in the corners. Plus I believe the door is off the track... The crank is real stiff to turn also.
