Part Interchange

You can get those 5-button switches, but not the 4-button switches that were on non-AC cars. Years ago, I rigged a 5-button to work in place of the 4-button on my 65 Newport. At that time, the 5-button ones were ~$20. I also wired it so the "blower high" position just turns on a relay. Otherwise, it will eventually overheat and melt the plastic like the original ones.

After weighing my options, I decided to send my switch to Anthony Powell for a rebuild. If the switch needs a complete rebuild total cost will be $70 plus $5 shipping. Some pics of his work can be seen here:

He has a quick turnaround time so I should have my switch back in time to install this weekend. I'll post the results.

Per Anthony, the vacuum ports were fragile and one broke when he touched it. A few of the buttons were broken at the socket where the buttons attach. I internally, one board was broken into two pieces and one was damaged in another place. I should have it back by Saturday and plan to install this weekend.

I do not think he has a website.

I got the chance to install my rebuilt switch today. It functions as it should and the buttons are very smooth and are operable with very little effort. I suppose this is what is operated like in '65. It was well worth the $75 rebuild charge ($70 plus $5 shipping). If you are in need of a rebuild, I highly recommend him.

He replaced the button sockets, vacuum ports and wafer boards inside as a couple of mine were broken.
