Rant ON... National Anthem...

I believe the sole focus of this issue is disrespecting our Flag and National Anthem. I don't give a rat's *** about whether you like President Trump or whatever you don't like about what he does from day to day. That is a separate issue as well as Kapernicks issue. Is it too hard to stand up and shut the **** up for 2 minutes? What do you think would happen if a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Airmen would take a knee? That would never happen.......

My question has nothing to do with whether the article was accurate or not. And yes, it relates because Trump is pushing the NFL issue. As far as "giving up" because there are a lot of Trump supporters here, I think a person can agree with Trump on policy issues and have voted for him but still be gravely concerned when he expresses an interest in impeding a free press.

I'll have to let the screencaps do most of the talking, but first of all, the governance of broadcast journalism has been a function of the FCC since its inception. That's "serving the public interest". It's not circumventing the 1st amendment... They're free to broacast Trump hate-a-thons all day under the cover of "editorial". They may not knowingly label false information as "news". It's really as simple as that.

For the media to imply otherwise (for the purpose of fear-mongering) is disingenuous at best.

Of course not, but Tillerson never denied he made the statement either.

Do you believe everything Trump says?

No, Tillerson said he would not deal with "petty nonsense" and this is what's wrong with Washington.
This response was to a reporter's question. Also this
was supposedly said 7/20 ??? Why the delay then ?
As for whether i believe everything Trump says i call them as i see them. If i don't agree with him doesn't
mean i don't believe him maybe just a difference of opinion .The media i believe is trying to create news
instead of reporting it and let us decide. This reminds me of all the "frenzy' over Ronald Reagan, same allegations all over again.(nuclear war, racist)

This is disappointing, and I'm a little annoyed at saforwardlook for throwing gas on my questions. So far there is only one clear answer: 1978NYB says no, but doesn't answer the second part of the question, except very indirectly. I think Carmine says no, but I don't know if he was upset by the NFL players or not.

I think Carmine says no, but I don't know if he was upset by the NFL players or not.

I shall clarify, especially since you asked a legitimate question...

1) I'm not concerned that President Trump will "shutdown" the 1st amendment. My take was that his "tweet" served the purpose of getting people talking about broadcasters serving the public interest, and of course that makes them nervous. Nervous enough that they'll try and spin this into "shutting down the 1st amendment, oh my!" The truth is they are granted special, exclusive privileges to use radio frequncies. Hook your old VCR's RF output up to an amp and an antenna and see how long your free speech lasts without a license. Part of that licence is to serve the public, and knowingly broadcasting false information violates that license. That said, it's hard to prove. Their right to editorialize under the proper heading continues.

2) The actions of the NFL players only concern me because I see them as "useful idiots"; pawns being used to demoralize the nation. To create animosity and mistrust where none may have existed. To make the anthem as controversial as a confederate flag, and standing for it as an act condoning racism and all the other "isms". I do not think the individual players are bright enough to even realize this. I'm sure some of them may even be sincere, but they're being used as pawns in a culture war none the less. Specific to their actions, they are free to purchase newspaper ads, call press conferences, lead marches, etc. on their own time, but they are subject to termination for doing so while representatives of their employer... just as I would be fired if I decided to go on a 2nd Amendment rant while representing my employer at an auto show, etc.

I heard a blurb on the news about the NFL back peddling and choosing to go with the majority (fans) and requiring standing. Wishy wash upper management a-holes, I hope this keeps circling on them and makes them squirm because they can't be like the latest reality TV star and be everyone's friend
This is the same problem in Washington to much image concern so nothing gets accomplished no matter who the majority is.

I just went through the whole thread and as a Vet I don't like them not standing for the anthem/flag. It is a symbol of our country and our people. When we defend our country, we are defending the people and our way of life, the flag is a representation of this. I believe this is why so many Vets find it so offensive.
I said it before, if the players really wanted to make a difference they would find different outlets to either make their stand/protest and bring attention to their cause. Like others said I would be fired for doing the things they are doing at work. They are being paid to play a game, show some respect, do your job, protest on your own time not mine. I feel the same way when some self entitled Hollywood type goes on a awards show and instead of thanking people who helped them get where they are at they go on some political rant. I don't care, do it on your own time, go on a talk show. Any way I am done ranting.

I haven't been to this thread for a while. It seems to have morphed, as they often do. I'm back because I am curious how the folks who are upset at the NFL players feel about Trump's threat to challenge a network's license because he didn't like the report that Tillerson called him a moron after he suggested that we increase our nuclear weapon stockpile by 10 times. On one hand we have relatively powerless men "disrespecting" a symbol (the flag) to protest a perceived injustice. On the other hand we have the most powerful man in the world "disrespecting" the foundation of our country (the constitution, a document he swore to protect and defend) because he didn't like a news story. He reportedly said: “It is frankly disgusting the press is able to write whatever it wants to write.”

Are you outraged? If not, why not? I'm pretty sure the story about Tillerson calling him a moron is true, but go ahead and assume it is false. In my mind, it doesn't matter if the story is accurate or not.

Trump suggests challenging TV network licenses over 'fake news'

From your link: "FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel responded to Trump by tweeting a link to an FCC fact sheet. “Not how it works,” she said on Twitter."

I really don't love Donnie either. I'm not too surprised he said something like that.

But I'm pretty sure the Bill of Rights will survive his time in office.

Thanks for the interesting responses Carmine and cantflip. 65-500, thanks for providing background music.

thank you for your service, Scotty. :usflag:

I really must be mellowing. I went this whole thread without really getting involved.
Had to bite my tongue once, though.

And thank you for proving our point.
If I proved any of your points, then you either didn't read or didn't understand my posts. I appreciate those who did, even if we disagree. It's too bad you can't take a joke about your humming.
