B-J and Mecum are nothing more than a big party , almost an orgy of money men.
I was more referring of the hundreds of smaller antique car auctions, not the used car local auctions that are necessary.
Let's face it, the swap meets have suffered because of the world wide exposure of the net

I didn't see the police package on the sticker.
Police pkg. not available to the public. He went to the LT1 and HD suspension that got him 80% there.

He never claimed it had the cop pkg.
I'm guessing he installed the HD alternator, cooling and tranny cooler.

FWIW, I owned an Impala SS and then the Roadmaster. When the P51 Ford Interceptor Mercury Marauder was introduced, I test drove it considering using my Roadmaster as a Trade-in.
The test drive convinced me my Roadmaster was still a better car.
Not that I would toss out of my garage a Vic/Marquis/Town Car.

Loved that Marauder .. but never owned one. Still might one day. RoadMaster was a "better" car for what I wanted, but the Mercs/ImpSS's more "stylish" may be what most people would say.

Had Roadmaster as company car in 1995 .. i loved that big "sum-bee". Offensive lineman with full-back sprinting capabiity that floated like a cloud at 85 mph :) .

WHile the 4.6L was no match for the LT1 (some will argue that ..I am just stating my seat of the pants experience), the P71's though handled by far better to me than any 90's 9C1 Caprice

I didnt get into Fords P71's until the 1999 models ... and THAT was in 2005 calendar year. Somewhere in there (04 MY maybe) they went to the "pancake" wheels (extreme positive offset) and I couldn't go with the deep dish wheels I liked.

By 2005 (?), with the new Marauder "air-boxes" and sportin' 250HP, the 4.6L P71's MAY have been a performance match of the much heavier 9C1 Caprices of a decade earlier .. but again I wasn't into the P71's after 2003 Models so I don't know for sure.

I'm not sure on this but I believe the Panther platform had to move to the 17" non-offset wheels when they upgraded the disc brakes.

Love the Impala SS's, only wish GM would have went the DIS route on the LT1. The opti-spark distributor works but is a crap design IMHO. Buried behind the water pump and balancer.
The Crown Vic went to the Panther platform in 03 I believe. A friend of my sons picked up a 03 Police Interceptor and someone put Marauder wheels on it, looks better than the steelies even though they are the funny offset.

Technically, 1979 on the Boxy Crown Vics.
1992, on the aero Crown Vics

I didn't see the police package on the sticker.

yeah, good point. Other stuff came with 9C1 Package like certified speedo (it would say that too). I'd like to see the RPO code sticker.

I aint dissin' this car. its cherry. we were pretty strict, though, on keeping a 9C1's with Fleet accounts.

It appears that the buyer got a LOT of cop stuff on his car in the various RPO's he ordered though .. albiet perhaps NOT the 9C1 RPO full complement of cop stuff.

still a great car.

I'm not understanding something here.
The only options listed on the sticker is the LT1, "Sport" Suspension, and whitewalls.

I would not think the Sport Suspension would have cop goodies like the alternator, HD cooling, etc.

I missed your earlier response to march's post at #23. Sorry bout that.

The seller made this descption:

I am the original owner of this 1996 Caprice Classic. It was the last model year of the full size rear wheel drive Caprice. I retired as a Trooper that year and purchased this vehicle as my retirement car. I equipped it just as the vehicles I had driven and learned to trust over 20 years as a Trooper. These vehicles were made for heavy duty use. It is equipped with the LT1 5.7 L V8. It has a heavy duty alternator, cooling system, transmission cooler and over size tires 235-70-15.

march observed he didnt see "police" on window sticker. I was trying to agree it may NOT be a "police package" car, though the description seems to say that in a way, ala this one:

source: Buy new 1996 CHEVY CAPRICE CLASSIC, 9C1, FORMER NY State Police Car, Governor's Car,Mint in Armonk, New York, United States, for US $12,000.00

With the sport suspension and the towing package, seller DID get some cop goodies, and he got the optional P code LT1.

What he didnt get was ALL the 9C1 content which (please DONT test me on this as i am going by memory), certified digital speedo, the HD electricals including an extra battery, all the HD rad/fluid coolers (tow package may have these?), beefy suspension (sport package MAY have some of these), stronger frame (people argue this but I know for a fact this was true, same part number but cops had tougher chassis steel), heavy duty seats (i DONT know if fleets could get UPLEVEL seat trim with HD seat frame), and about 10 or so OTHER things a "trooper/city cop car would have.

What i DONT know is what he drove as a Trooper. I take him at his word he drove cars equipped this way. But IF someone believes THIS is a 9C1 equipped car, s/he best ask some clarifying questions to understand what is/isnt 9C1 content on this car (as you commented to march already).

I also dont see any evidence, beyond the hot LT1 (optional on the Chevy, standard in Buick), that this is 9C1 "police-package" car UNDER the skin FROM the factory.

i love these things.........have owned a 94 LS LT1, would drive it full time if I could. He's high on his price though.

from the picture of the engine compartment that is not a 9C1 engine as does not have the Silicone green hoses or the front mounted tranny cooler. I had a caprice & 2 Roadmaster wagons that had regular black hoses from factory. the 9C1's of 91-96 came with the Goodyear green Silicone hoses. I added both of the above items to my 95 Roadmaster. in fact I still have a set of NOS factory tranny lines for the 9C1 cooler hanging on the garage wall.

With the sport suspension and the towing package,
Agreed, but what is confusing me is there is no Trailer Towing Package on the window sticker. Yes, I see the Tow Pkg. decal.
So, how do you figure this?
Dealer installed Tow Pkg?

Sidebar: I actually found an OEM 91-96 Police Pkg. Wagon-only rubber floor mat in a surplus store. I was giddy from scoring such a find. Small things make me happy. :p

;-) yes the simple things mean a lot.

there are RPO codes on the Service Parts Sticker that would confirm the factory installed tow package. i am not surprised the window sticker does NOT show tow package and other features ordered.

Commando what a find. if I recall they only made like 200 9C1 wagons for 91-96 wouldn't think they had many wagon specific parts lying around anywhere.

For someone who has never owned a Panther Platform car, I know too much about them. There's something wrong with me.

I just bought a 94 Roadmaster wagon with LT1 and trailer tow package to replace my 72 Town and Country to pull my 3200 pound camper! That's all that's out there these days in rear drive and V8,except for a truck! Its only 24 years old verseses 46 for the Chrysler and hopefully will be our retirement tow vehicle to see this great country! I'm hoping for MPGs about 14 pulling the trailer, what do you guys get with yours? and I don't have a rear sway bar! I thought the trailer tow package included this? Im going to miss the 72 but hopefully the Buick will be more reliable and get better than 7MPG and it even has working air!! I also bought the 94 sedan but have sold it ! I just had to have a wagon!! Its neat to compare the two! I'm going to reinstall the factory aluminum wheels soon!!
