Seller’s Description:

1966 Duesenberg Concept Car, the last real Duesenberg. Only one prototype produced. Massive size and ultimate luxury, every option imagineable. This Duesenberg was created under the auspices of Augie Duesenberg and designed by Virgil Exner and built by Ghia. The provenance is excellent from day one. First time in over 50 years that this car is publicly being offered for sale.

It was on display at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg museum for 30 years until it went to the Bortz Auto Collection where it has been for the past 15 years. The car is still almost completely original and check out the video to see how nice it drives down the road.

MUSEUM QUALITY WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER!

A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of automotive history with complete provenance.

The luxury and amenities are hard to imagine until you actually drive this car.

True Duesenberg luxury and comfort whether driving at highways speeds or a relaxing Sunday drive to the country club. Excellent show piece for any serious car collection or museum.

Serious inquiries can call Joe Bortz 847-668-2004 cell 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. CST

Price: $475,000 obo

I saw this car when it was at the ACD museum in '96, which makes me feel old when I consider that was almost 20 years ago.

I never knew it went to Bortz's collection. That in itself is disappointing because I feel like that car should be displayed somewhere "public".

Now it will probably go to some oil sheik and get a chrome-wrap. :(

I was thinking Leno

It’s not even a hardtop. They missed an opportunity to make a nice car even better.

I guess around year 2000, or whenever eBay really was getting to be something, a real Duesenberg sold for something around 55k. It was a Giant 4 door town car, non supercharged.

Meh.... it is a nice rare car and a Duesenberg but a little too much T-Bird and Riviera in it for my liking. Just sayin'.
Not one of Exner's best work if you know what I mean.

And I think you're right Dave, it's got Leno written all over it.

Powered by a 440? And i would assume a 727 auto trans. Not really impressed with the styling..

I wouldn't be caught dead being seen in that thing.
Truthfully, I'd drive a used Sebring before driving that.

Now THIS, I would love:

Built on an Imperial chassis, powered by a 440, 244.7 inches in length... I like it.
Hopefully it will stay in USA.

It looks like a Continental mated with an Imperial. If I had that kind of money for a collector car, I'd take twelve Continentals instead

Looks like a kit car based on a T-Bird.
I recall a number of “modernized classics” built around that time. I made a scale model of a “new” Stutz and maybe one of these as a kid.

I see a lot of love/hate in Exner's cars... I definitely love many of them. To be honest, I think this one is lacking in some of the areas mentioned (hardtop was a huge miss). I also see a lot of really cool features, just not the happy marriage that other of his cars received.

A neat piece of history, I do hope it finds a nice home I can see it live at someday.

I'm no expert on Duesenburgs, but that sounds pretty low, or the car must have been a basketcase. They can be 7-8 figure cars.

It was cheap then. The engine looked like a typical Duesenberg, without the supercharger, but the body looked like a 4 door stretched version of a Model T Doctor's coupe. Great for a collection, bad if you really wanted to use it. It was a complete running driving car that had not been restored. I passed on several other cars around that time that really took off as well. A Ferrari Dino for 52k, A Maserati Ghibli for 29k, flat floor E type coupe nice for 26k, and on and on. To my credit I did buy other cars, some wise & some not. At that time they really didn't seem like a great investment, more for just fun. I'll see if I can find an example of the Duesenberg.
