58 Imperial I'm looking to buy (help on the Value)

I should think that even if you felt you had to sell down the track a buyer would be found as these vehicles are popular, but there's no rush, you'll have a lovely car, take the time and enjoy the journey until the great day comes that you can cruise the freeways.

I'm thinking it will take 8-10k to get her driving. So I'm anticipating 12-13k in total with a rebuilt motor and trans. Do you think I would be in deeper than that to get her on the road? You're right, it wouldn't be easy to pass on a car such as this one, it is a beautiful design, Hemi engine, glorious fins, etc.
If the body is sound then that would be a great start, cosmetics don't matter too much, you can enjoy it for a while and tend to those items later, if you're able to purchase the Imperial and get it roadworthy without blowing the budget, I say go for it.
I'm assuming you're a young bloke (?), you'd have plenty of time to do it up right over time, these cars are only getting harder and harder to find.
I would ask someone who has experience with Forward Look Imperials to accompany you when you do the inspection, perhaps someone on here or the Imperial Owners Club - Online Imperial Club (OIC) for Imperial, Chrysler Imperial, and Chrysler New Yorker Brougham Enthusiasts might be willing to help you out?
I hope the car's owner isn't too greedy and is willing to pass it on to someone who clearly would cherish owning such a beautiful Imperial.

Your words have the sound of experience in them . Thank you. Next week I will view the car in person. If it's meant to be, it will happen.

Thanks. It will be cared for and cherished along side my two formals. Thanks for the advice. Age is relative and I'm somewhere in the mid or a touch over; however, having a set of experience eyes with me when I take a look at it would be helpful. i would even be willing to buy lunch.
The seller does not have a price as of yet. After I view the car, will decide if the car is a consideration and go from there. Thanks again for your suggestion. If the car is in the ballpark, I will see if someone can take a second look with me. Also, if I pick it up, I will take the care to see that it's done right. Then someday it can be pass down to another.
 
Well....I went to look at the car today prepared to give the seller his asking price of $3,000. After viewing the car, and ready to seal the deal for that amount, he told me he would have to wait to see what the other guy at 1 o'clock would offer for the car for him to make a decision. Not the way I do business! So I decided to pass on the car.

I would like to thank everyone for their help and advice with this. I will still be looking for another a 58 Imperial on the West Coast. One that's already running and drivable. At the same time I would also love to find another formal. A black one with tan interior. :) Thank you all again.

Not the West coast, in fact just the opposite, but some indication of what a running/driving one (I assume from the photos) might sell for. This one seems to even have most of the original interior present, and for a New York vehicle, looks pretty nice.

That was certainly bad form, but maybe check back as you're the only other person willing to buy and you may get it.

Anyway, at least you've seen it.
I'd be tempted to buy it as you liked it and you'll have a car but i wish you well regardless of your ultimate decision.

I think the price is about right. Too bad it's on the opposite coast where I can't just go and look at it. Hopefully one will come up in the next year or two over here. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me.

Thanks for your kind words and wisdom. I could possibly email his son and see if he has it and is will to do business properly. My guess is that is was sold but I'm not sure. I'm still angry at him for playing that game after I was there to buy the car. My whole thing now is about principles. It's not always the easiest thing to do but in my opinion it's always the right thing to do. At the same time I believe in giving a person a second chance in the hope that they will do the right thing. I will have to give it a day or two to think about this one. Thanks again for your input. It's much appreciated.

In any case the focus should be on the car, just smile and pay the money and get a signed sales agreement - January 26 2018 bought a 1958 imperial from John Clements for say 3500.00. A copy for each of you then load the car and whatever also goes with it and say thanks until you're on the highway, then laugh as you've got a car worth more in parts than the purchase price.

The seller is quickly forgotten in the excitement of attending to the cars' needs.

As Americans say "So many assholes, so few bullets."

We all wish you well and those who can will offer parts and advice, and then want a ride in your nice car once you're broke from restoring it.

You must have left nicely... I would have struggled not to say something that would assure I wasn't getting the car. I can see the seller trying, but be fair to the guy buying too.

Agreed!! I'm not sure if he will text me back. When leaving the warehouse I told him I would have to think about what he just said. He ask me to make sure to let him know before 1. I did not reply . Then at 1:24 he called me to see if I still had interest . I refrain from using any foul language or derogatory comments but I did say the following:"I'm disappointed with your method. Your son said the price was $3,000, you said the price was 3000. I told you that i had the cash with me and ready to do business. Then when I offered you $3,000 you say you had to wait to see if the other intereted party would offer more. That's just wronge and not thay way I do business" He apologized and said his son was not at fault and that it was all his.Then he said he would not ask if I still had an offer for the car because he didn't want me to have any hard feelings about the car. He finished by thanking me for viewing the car and the call ended. So I did't tell him off but I did put him in his place. if the car did not sell, he may be embarrassed to text me back or upset with me putting it straight. His son mentioned that the car needed to be sold even if it was to be parted out. . My guess is that it was sold to the Imperial club member. Unless....he too did not like the seller tactics. Let's see.... he migh possibly text me back to let me know. If not, maybe we can find out through the grapevine if the car was saved by someone in the Imperial Club who also live in Sacramento. I would hate to see such a beautiful car neglected.
