They're still out there: 1971 Sport Fury GT

Still liking the Dodge version better

They look too small and out of place, but very minor issue indeed. E-body mirrors perhaps, installed by the original owner or dealer after the fact? The build sheet might have more detail.

We have a winner! The previous owner mentioned he installed E-body mirrors on the car in the early 70s, and had them painted to match. It was just brought up in conversation, my friend would not have known those were not original.
The emblems which belong on the car (the 440 and Sport Fury fender emblems) were included. They were removed years ago to make sure thieves didn't get to them.
The car had two alarms installed on it back when new, one for the hood and one for the doors, etc. So there is one of those "key locks" installed between the driver's side fender slats on the top, and then another in the grille (you might be able to see it in the front shot of the car). The horns made different noises so he would know right away if somebody was trying to pop his hood, or break into the car otherwise. Pretty funny seeing those big alarm horns under the hood.
Few other timeperiod correct items include a New Mexico State University parking sticker on the rear bumper with an expiration date of Aug. 1974, the "AKA" fraternity stickers on both door windows, alarm warning stickers on the windows, etc. The inspection sticker is a super old Texas sticker, but unfortunately the part which would have the year printed on it has crumbled away. License plate says 1975.

Not sure what his plan is for the car. He's a die-hard Mopar guy with some other neat cars so it's in good hands out of the elements. But a full-on rotisserie restoration is definitely not in the cards at the moment. He's gonna let the cylinders soak with penetrating oil for a few weeks and see if the motor will turn. If it does, he will install the headers probably that came with the car (new in the box), and see if it will roar back to life.

The car will definitely need some metal work around the rear window, and especially the left quarter. Right where it meets the Dutchman panel is rotted pretty bad.

And I have first dibs if he decides to sell

The only thing that could make this lucky bastard suck more is if he got it for $2500.
Pleeeeease tell me he didn't!

April Metallic Green when it is not badly faded really looks great on these cars IMHO. Congrats to the owner on this huge score.

It's comforting to know the car is in good hands.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't touch the car. I would just get it running, buff and clean the paint and interior and preserve it as it is; very cool "day two" period muscle car. (even the speakers)

Very few owners "muscled out" their C-bodies, and very few survive in that condition today.

It's a time capsule.....I'd leave it alone and drive the snot out of it!

Who knows, Wellborn might want it for his survivor collection.

By the way, I have an NOS set of "day two" Goodyear Polyglas GT tires for this car, if you are interested.

Just my .02

Not sure what you are implying Steve

It was just a confirmation that the body code plate indicated a black interior, as shown in the photos from Hamtramck registry, so there should not have been any white trim inside. Really just a confirmation of what you were saying.

Hey Trev, I was just meeting with Gary, Tom and Ron this afternoon at my place, and I really never understood how much you guys are just like Carsten. All you guys are ganging up on me big time! I want my cars to look showroom new, not just resuscitate some old wreck so it can go back on the road again with all its warts in plain view! If something in my cars doesn't work like it should, it really annoys the crap out of me, and if it doesn't look new, I think it sends the wrong message about how really spectacular these cars were new on the showroom floor!

And I was bewildered when Ron said he could take an area on my Hurst that has surface rust on it and treat it so it would show up white again. :realcrazy: I feel I need to sell my Hurst to Tom/Ron given how they were fawning over it because it is so original and untouched, and dreaming how it should go back on the road someday just the way it was, after cleaning it up! You guys even want the bias ply tires back on them - just exactly like Carsten! :poke:

You guys really crack me up, but to each his own!!! :steering:

:thankyou: ... I thought perhaps you were seeing something I wasnt.

It is in Need of a bit more serious bodywork and is a bit too weathered to make a real nice survivor. Mending/blending with keeping the original paint would be too much of a compormise in this case, though I admit I see it only slightly over the border of a survivor you should not touch.

Y16: Sales Bank = unusual

GJ4: April Green Metallic = very good color in the right light

G33: Racing Mirror = weird, that's the first time I've seen them on C-body

No clock.....clock delete car? Mine doesn't have one either.

Black interior, white headliner? It should be black per H6XA interior trim codes

Cool car with good options! Save that paint!!!
I've seen that once before. I had a 100% original 1970 AAR lime green w black interior back in the 80s. The headliner was white. It really makes the interior nice and way less like a dark cave. It happens...
