Here's another of my stupid questions: My '67 New Yorker has what seems to be a 25-gallon tank. What is the purpose of a fuel cell and why would you need it.? " and what is the purple stuff? synthetic oil?

The original tank is probably bad, the fuel cell is the easy quick fix. Not right but it works

The Royal purple is one of the best oils in the market. For me I run Lucas hot rod engine oil
