Hello Fellow Mopar Enthusiasts,

Working on a 68 Newport, (ok, not a big shocker) that hasn't run in several years.
The previous owner, or one of the previous owners, high-schooled the car more than a bit.
It looks like the fuel line through the frame in the front of the car became pinched and to resolve the problem, it was cut, (fuel must have been drained, right?) & a rubber line was routed to the interior of the car, presumably to a portable gas can.

I would like to re-use the gas tank of course, and while underneath the vessel, am looking for advice on swapping the fuel line out.
1. I'm not sure if I can yank the line out through the front frame, so should I just run a parallel line up from the tank? Has anyone done this, advice?
2. I'd like to swap out the pick-up from the tank, & all the line stuff possible while I'm at it, assuming the hardware can be found somewhere, (haven't checked the regular stores yet, Advance, O'Reily's, CAP, etc.). Any recommended sources?
3. The fuel line runs from the tank and is close to the exhaust pipe in the area of the rear axle housing, (starboard side, aft). Also is visible near the starboard aft wheel well, although not in the wheel well. I checked on other 68 Newports and it is consistent. I'm inclined to 'go rogue' and route it where I think best, and could use any advice before I dive in.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hello Mike, I have done this job many times. The fuel line is held in by two retainers, one at the front of the line, and one at the rear. Remove the retainers and wrap a length of fish wire to the front of the line and remove it from the rear. The fish line will help you install the new one. I have purchased new lines from Inline Tube, and they fit great. Now might be a good time to replace the rear line and connecting hoses. Good luck.

Thanks Train, will do. Just ordered my "2 piece kit". Curious if the kit ends in the tank, or outside of the tank.

Mike,
What TT55 said is right on for how to get it out.

The rear line doesn't go clear into the tank. It comes up a couple of inches shy and is connected with a piece of rubber hose. I would recommend using line for fuel injection simply because it is less subject to issues with ethanol.

Starting on page two of the post below you'll see where I did this same job.

It should end outside of the tank, just before the sending unit. A short piece of rubber connects the two, with a ground strap going from the sending unit tube across the rubber and on to the fuel line.

Thanks Folks, the line swap was a snap. I threaded the old front line with a piece of 22awg galvy fence wire, and it worked perfect.

Check out the holy grail found behind the back part of the rear seat. I will remove it someday and put it in plastic, but it has an artistic/purist component finding it still there, especially when the fender tag is gone. A feeling I imagine, similar to when they found King tut's gold coffin.
