Driving in Tinley Park, IL today. Saw a gold 72 Polara, 4 door. 65k on the odometer, interior looks really good, but needs body work due to rust. Based on sticker on trunk lid, looks like it was sold in Hoopeston, IL new. The guy wants $4,750...but I don’t think I’d pay more than $1,000. Call Don at 708-420-2528.

Usually cars that show lower body perforation due to rust have a lot of hidden rust on floors and frame rails and usually wind up being parts cars due to the high cost to fix the rust out. Illinois cars are usually exposed to lots of road salt in winter. Your pricing estimate is probably in the ball park if this is a big block car. Small blocks do not have much parts potential.

I lived there for a couple of weeks during a student's Exchange thirty years ago and these model years were rusty as hell already back then. :wideyed:

Hello All, I spoke to the owner. It's got a 360. Says there was a guy selling 3 cars, and to get the one he wanted, he had to buy all three. Says it runs well and gets up to 70 mph pretty fast, but the carb needs to be looked at. Says he's negotiable off that $4750 asking price.

I wonder if the guy paid $4750 for all 3 cars.

Depending on inspection of the rust, $2500 might not be too bad. It's a hardtop, so a bit more upscale for a 4dr. Might have nice brocade interior. And it's not green.

The 72 Polara 4dr is starting to grow on me. Kinda ugly, yet kinda clean. Front end styling challenged convention - has the headlights in the bumper, in the bottom half of the car (visually, anyway). And looking closer, it has 2 lights in the grille, 2 in a 'normal' location, ala 62 Plymouth B-bodies. And the rear bumper/lights are cleanly done.
