Thank you Stan. It was relatively easy, but the overall impact is yuge.

The trick is to paint the emblems with satin black first, then let the paint set up for 2-5 min and wipe the face of them emblems with a microfiber dipped in acetone. One or two swipes should do it. Just be careful not to get too aggressive with the wiping or you will be painting them again. DAMHIK
I am following the @MarPar method for detailing my emblems. But I do have a technical /vain/ want to be as close as Original as possible question.
(68 Polara). It looks like most of the shadowing is on the bottom and inside the small gaps. However on the larger gaps and on the top side I do not see any evidence of paint. Could it be years of car washes and sun fading, or is it because its shadowing and should only be in the tight areas and bottom?
I realize that when they chrome these originally there is a halo effect and the chrome doesn’t get in the tight areas. (Argent or dark paint between the tight grill spaces anyone?). My theory suggests that the bottom and smaller inner areas should be black, but the top and bigger openings stay shiny.

For example: inside the P and D should be shiny. Inside all the others should be black? Even the stick for the P doesn’t have any paint evidence and it is protected. The bottom of the P stick and loop are painted.

Thanks for your advice and comments.

And then there are these.
First wht are these called (besides an emblem or trim piece) and why/how is it tied to Dodge. This piece of information isn’t in my memory banks, or I forgot.
Second. How are these supposed to be detailed? Black inside?

So the logo name is meaningless and really doesn’t signify anything

Ok now that I hi jacked my own thread. I really want to know how these Fratzogs and letters are detailed.

I strongly suspect that all of the emblems "shadow" should be a satiny black. All things considered, any OEM didn't take too many "pains" with their emblem paint jobs. The coating was not always consistent in coverage, either. Look at them closely for light/heavy paint areas, which can indicate the direction the emblem was in relation to the paint gun Masking of the chrome was not always "the best" either, by observation. After masking, mist the pain on in lighter coats until there's decent coverage and call it done. Unmask when dry and polish the areas not painted.

As fast as the line for the trim items was, it was a "single spray operation", I suspect. One color, one pass.

For the hood lettering I am pretty sure it is black all around with the top wiped. I used SEM Trim Black waited about 2 minutes and wiped with acetone using a micro fiber cloth and a small piece of carboard to keep it flat. (Learned from @MarPar post). I think it turned out good. The cursive script may use a little more shadowing effect.

For the Fratzog. I cannot find any pictures where there is black detailing. I think it is all chrome and the shape itself gives some shadowing.
If I am wrong and someone had a good picture and/or detail disproving my theory I am willing to listen.

I believe the shadowing completely surrounds the script. The internal areas are probably missing paint because it just didn't stick well to the chrome when new.

I would use a satin/semi-gloss enamel and paint the entire emblem and wipe off on top surface with enamel reducer.

Did as @Big_John suggested. It looks right.
I used the SEM Trim Black acrylic which looks to have the same tone and sheen as the original left over color. It is a satin/ semi gloss. Did 3 coats.

Before wiping and after wiping.

The pretty parts on. Well in place. I need to order the speed nuts with the rubber inserts.

Super work @HWYCRZR! Looks great!

Thank you for the original post.
I believe when I get my re chromed taillight pieces and inserts I will try this method. The whole center piece is painted red between the vertical bars. I think I can paint the whole thing red and then wipe the chrome. I cannot fathom taping off each detail.

It may even work on my hubcaps. Thanks again
