New owner of a 1968 Sports Fury. Why are parts so hard to find?

One of my favorite years, but Im a little partial. Good looking car. Please post more pictures.

Thanks. I will post more...like the intake gasket. The valley had rusted and someone stuffed fiberglass insulation and metal tape to try and stop the oil smoke. They also redid the belts to bypass the AC compressor.

There is a lot of info here on this great site all you got to do is just ask.And there are no dumb questions. These cars are what keep use sane.

Thank you. I am definitely interested in learning as much as I can.

I watched Tyler’s Neighborhood Garage on YouTube for hints on the gasket change.

Are you sure that's not the factory installed noise reduction stuff?? Fiberglass in aluminum foil?

Welcome, unfortunately the reproduction industry has developed a love for the C bodies that we have. So, parts when it comes to the body are hard to find, used stuff from the western end of the country is the way to go. The insulation under the intake is factory for noise reduction.

Thanks for the information on the insulation. It was oil soaked. Several holes in the turkey pan. Also, needed gas down the carb several times to get it started. Gas pedal would cause a stall unless gently done. My thought was intake gasket since carb was in good shape.
