Vietnam POW John McCain

Some people are so naïve to his Military career! 3 crashed airplanes on a Carrier, 134 fellow Sailors Dead because of his negligence, and yet never prosecuted or Court martialed because Daddies a Admiral! Yeah, some war hero alright! Buh Bye!

If he would have had bad feet this doubtful discussion would have never emerged of course. Who's not in action does nothing wrong.
May he still rest in peace.

His father and grandfather were 4 star Admirals. His Dad was the CINCPAC (Commander of all U.S. Forces in the Vietnam Theatre) from 1968-1972 while John was a POW. The NVA knew who he was and tried to get him to go home early but he refused because he knew that it was a propaganda play and it wasn't fair to the POW's that were held longer. John stayed in Hanoi all the way to the end.

? I read the snopes article that came up after clicking the link. Re the 134 sailors, McCain did not wet-fire his jet, "the fire was actually caused by the accidental firing of an Mk-32 “Zuni” rocket as a result of an electrical power surge during preparations for a strike against a target in North Vietnam" Is snopes lying?

McCain had integrity and a conscience, and a genuine concern for the well-being of all the citizens of this country, not just a favored few. He was willing to listen and negotiate with anyone. And he was willing to shut people down when they started to demean honest people, even those who disagreed with him or weren't members of his party.

What we have today in Congress is a disgrace to this country by comparison. Corruption is everywhere and sell-outs abound. It wasn't like this when I was young. Not at all. And it will not end well.

One thing you can say, John McCain was everything people associate with Washington DC!

If you're in the mood for some light reading...

(the site is a bit of a pain, but I think virtually everyone has forgotten this story... I would have as well if I didn't live near a Keating development when I was in AZ)

In 1989, Keating addressed the intentions behind his massive political donations to the senators, delivering one of his trademark outrageous comments.

"One question, among many raised in recent weeks, had to do with whether my financial support in any way influenced several political figures to take up my cause," he said. "I want to say in the most forceful way I can: I certainly hope so."

I dunno. Even if that story is not fake and the worst one you can find, from what I have seen, he is a comparative virgin relative to just about everyone else in the political throes of Washington these days, starting from the very top down. Watching the news these days is downright discouraging with all the legal findings of late and verified lies.

Independent. Strength. Honor. Integrity. The Senate is a lesser place today because of his passing as there is no one there, least of all Republican, who has any of those qualities.

As for the Keating Five, yes McCain exhibited poor judgement and sullied his honor. However, unlike many politicians he learned from it, and years later with Sen. Feingold passed a campaign reform bill 15 years ago. The flaw, later exposed, was that with the elimination of soft money you now had outside groups born after the United Citizens decision by the Supreme Court. Unfortunately there is now no one left in the Senate who would lead the reform against that. That era of reform Senators back around 2000 is now long gone with several having passed away.

May John rest in peace although I could probably say that he may have felt he was leaving too soon because of the perilous times we are in right now.

What legal findings are you referring too ?

It was actually the first one I found after searching "McCain, savings and loan", and you might have stronger feelings if you were a senior who lost your life's savings.

Look, he's gone and there's no need to belabor the point. None of these guys ever think it's time to step aside and spend their career building war-chests when the best thing they could do is groom new talent. So this is the only way they leave.

The media's creation of the "honorable maverick voice of integrity" is recent. I suspect they'd rehabilitate the image of George Wallace if they could dig him up and have him say something negative about the current administration. Before the Trump feud, McCain's media image was "quick to anger, grudge bearing" and even racist. You need only to plug "2008" into a search of his name.

I won't be manipulated in either direction. RIP John McCain, and I'll leave it at that.

That is wrong! His A-4 was hit by a zuni rocket that cooked off of a F-4 as he was getting ready for flight. His 1000lb bomb was hit by the rocket and his plane captain pulled him out before the A-4 exploded. This caused a conflagration that consumed a good part of the strike group and killed 138 sailors. McCain was burned badly, he had completed most of his 100 mission requirement to finish his tour and could have been excused but decided to do another tour. He was shot down doing his duty. As far as crashing 3 aircraft that includes 1 during training, 1 that blew up underneath him on the Forrestal and the 1 that he was shot down in.

John McCain is an example of what a true selfless American is. Served his country w/ great personal sacrifice. To stay w/ his fellow POW's till wars end by choice earned respect the there is no measure. The respect from his fellow congressmen from both sides of the aisle is rarely seen. His personal integrity as a husband, father, congressman and veteran sets a watermark we should all try to strive for. His conscience for those he represented is beyond reproach. Gods speed John McClain.:usflag:

Like I thought a hit article.

I can do you one better as I read it and that is did you read the Senate Ethics Committee report on the case? No, I thought so therefore it would be best to read first. Always nice to know all the available knowledge since it lays it all out with no cherry picking.

Phoenix New Times is pretty well-respected for its investigative pieces. It's from 1989, when the story was hot. #2 on Google (after Wikipedia), so I didn't exactly need to use any "alt right" dark-web searches.

Senators investigating senators? Please.

Integrity as a husband? When his 1st wife was battling canc er he left her.
And as a senator he didnt follow the voters wishes.
That's not integrity.
My son (retired Navy) called him an admirals son of a ...
He was not repected in Navy circles.
