Price is a bit steep for a small block car although it is a nice example of a well preserved Fury. Seller could add a few hundred dollars to the bid price by properly detailing the engine compartment (dirty valve covers, incorrect t-stat housing, rebuilder tag on master cylinder) Undercoating applied to the inside of the rear quarters looks like it was applied with a trowel. Might suggest hidden features.

Good eye dave, chromed t-stat housings are even worse than chromed coils, some of them don't even have lips. Get 'er good and hot and just wait for that hose to pop off. The thing that struck me as odd was that they recently painted the water pump, intake and at least the upper block, but not the valve covers? That doesn't make sense in my books. I just did the opposite, due to the seals leaking. I'll get around to the rest eventually. And yes, those terrible red heater hoses are on the list of things to do. I want to find the correct heater valve first. Any ideas where a guy would find one? Car is a 1970 Newport convertible, no A/C.

Correct heater hoses will of course be black with a flat finish. A Couple of questions. Those are TNT manifolds, engine should be magnum/TNT red with those in '70. Air cleaner should be flat black with a TNT Pie Plate. The heater control for most '70 Chryslers is a barrel type vacuum actuated valve . If you google '70 Chrysler heater control valve, several different sites come up. If your car never had A/C the valve with the silver top and black body will probably be the right one. A word of caution here, Canadian models will vary as will production anomalies in the US. If you have the old valve it has a part number if you are trying to be correct.

Too late for correct in this case, the car was sold new in Edmonton, white body, top, black bucket interior 383 TNT, that's where the exhaust manifolds and dual snorkel air cleaner came from, original engine long gone, replaced with 440, 440 transmission and 3.23 sure grip rear end, so the speedo is off. You don't want to see the quarters on this car. I picked it up for a very small sum, even though it is very rough I was told the engine was professionally rebuilt 20,000 miles before I got it. No papers, I was going off of his word, which I trusted, I had dealt with him previously and had to earn his trust before he would sell me this rust bucket. I'm being mean there, while the quarters are totally shot the rest of the car is solid. And I don't need to worry about my car with all the jagoffs running around my town. At least in theory, I still do. By the way, judging by the way it consumes absolutely no oil and runs like a raped ape, I believe he wasn't lying to me. And while I always believed he wasn't, perhaps he was lied to and perpetuated the lie. Luckily that wasn't the case. Thanks for the response Dave.

How much do you think it would cost to detail the engine bay? I've never done it, but would like to try. What, exactly, does that involve?
Thanks

If you have a pro detail shop do it, that type of detailing usually starts in the $250 to $350 range and can go up from there. This car ('69 Fury) needs to have the over spray on the heater box removed and the T-stat housing replaced with the correct unit. Valve covers need to be removed, cleaned and repainted. Rust needs to be removed from the lower collar of the steering gear, crankcase breather has one port blocked off, either it is the wrong unit or there is a missing hose some place. Voltage regulator is an aftermarket unit, wiper motor barrel is corroded and needs cleaning. Hose clamps are wrong for the heater and radiator hoses, should be spring type clamps. There is blue over spray on the negative battery cable. Air cleaner needs to be refinished and the improperly placed clamp for the crank case breather hose needs to be properly set. Hose routing for the power brake booster is incorrect, the booster has surface rust that needs to be cleaned off, rebuild tag for master cylinder should be removed. There is blue over spray on the heater hose support bracket and the fuel line to the carb. The alternator housing has a dull appearance and needs to be cleaned up. That is what I can see from the photo, guessing frame rails will also need cleaning as will the exposed paint on the underside of the hood. May be other stuff not shown in the photo.

This seems like a VERY nice car to me. Seems to be little interest here, though. 'Cause it's a 318?

As, you said, it is the big block cars that seem to draw the most interest. I suspect the other reason this car is not drawing a lot of interest at present is that the asking price is probably excessive for a small block. That having been said, it a nice car.

It is a very nice car, but yes the small block is holding it back along with the few things done improperly and the wrong wheels (easy fix) wrong roof (not such an easy fix) and it's brown. And that's coming from a guy with a brown car, well technically dark gold, only in the sun though. Some people say it's green?

Wrong roof? Do you mean the back window thing? I must study harder, because I can hardly tell the difference, but apparently it's a big thing to a lot of people.

Yeah, that's what is known as the "formal" roof. Not quite as nice as the "regular" roof. That is only a matter of opinion though, there has to be some people who like it. The C pillar is a little bulkier and the window is concave, similar to some of the Impalas of the same era.

Hi, Barry: I'm confused. Are you saying that you will have your Fury for sale in OCT, or is that part of the ad for the Fury here in the pics? If you are selling yours, what year is it? Also, it looks like the one here in the ad is sold: the link no longer works. Am I correct about this? Thanks

Hi Lord Castlereagh,

The car isn't mine, I saw this on the RacingJunk site and thought others here might be interested. There's a link to the actual ad, and I pasted in the text and pics. Per the text, the owner will have the car at the AACA Hershey fall meet in PA...October 10-13-2018 in the car corral area. Soooo, if you're interested it looks like you'll be taking a road trip to Hershey . . . :)

Yep. I think I just might do that. Like I say, though, the link to the ad is dead. Makes me wonder if the car is still available. Thanks
